Permanent Position, working 80 hours per fortnight
Salary range from £17,076 to £19,187 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

Bristol Zoological Society is recruiting for the position of Animal Keeper on our Mammal section at the Bristol Zoo Gardens site in Clifton, Bristol. This is a full-time position working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays. It may also include occasional evening work.

Applicants should be educated to at least GCSE level, to include English and a biological science. Holding the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals – DMZAA (previously known as ANCMZA) would be an advantage.   Previous employment as a mammal keeper in a recognised animal collection is preferred, along with experience working with great apes or pinnipeds.

A positive outlook, the ability to work within a team and having a good knowledge of the conservation and educational roles of zoos is required. We are looking for excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of animal training. You will be expected to engage with our guests and deliver regular talks.

This is a practical position assisting in all aspects of management and husbandry of the Zoo’s mammal collection. You will need to have a good level of physical fitness.
