Senior
Primate Keeper
Salary
from £8.86 - £9.74 per hour depending on experience
Plus,
a living out allowance of £2,600 gross per annum
The
Aspinall Foundation is a registered charity that is actively involved with
several projects incorporating a diverse range of conservation activities both
at their Kent based Howletts Wild Animal Park and Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve
and overseas projects in the Congo, Gabon, Indonesia and Madagascar.
We are
looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team of
dedicated primate keepers at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve. This position
offers a great opportunity to work with a wide range of species including Javan
Gibbons, Greater Bamboo Lemurs and Dianna Monkeys as well as contributing to
in-situ conservation programmes. This is a full-time permanent role.
Your
duties will include but are not be limited to:
- Preparing and
distributing approved diets.
· Observing the behaviour, health and security of animals
and reporting any problems to the Section Head.
- Maintaining
enclosures to a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness and assisting
with the general repair and improvement of enclosures.
- Giving talks, primate
encounters and answering enquiries from the public.
- Supervising
staff in the absence of the Section Head and Deputy Section Head.
- Assisting with
the development of Trainee Keepers and providing guidance to Interns and
volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant experience
as a Keeper, which must have included working with primates.
- Proven ability
to work effectively in a team and without supervision.
- A full
valid driving licence is essential to the role.
- Excellent
animal husbandry skills.
- Experience of
contributing to the enrichment of species.
- You must be enthusiastic
and motivated with an
awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare.
- A broad
taxonomic knowledge and excellent observations skills.
- A good
level of physical fitness due to the physically demanding nature of the
role.
- Holding a
recognised Animal Management or similar qualification would be
advantageous
- You must be comfortable interacting with the public.
Working hours
are 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays.
The
successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours.
All
