Ceredigion, Mid Wales

Borth Zoo is situation on the West Coast of Wales and is home to a variety of exotic and domestic animals. It is easily accessible via bus or train and is close to the university town of Aberystwyth.

Borth Zoo is currently looking to recruit 1 x suitably skilled paddock animal keeper.

Role and Responsibilities:

• The primary role of this position will be to participate in the daily husbandry and daily routines of the Paddock animals, currently consisting of Ponies, goats, pigs, wallabies and lechwe.

This includes feeding animals, maintaining enclosures, enrichment, daily record keeping, public keeper talks and animal health checks/treatment.

• As a primary keeper, you will also help with the daily supervision of existing volunteers and participate in the training of new volunteers and work experience students.

•    You will receive training and have the opportunity to partake in research projects where suitable.

Applicants should possess the following skills and attributes:

•          Experience working with horses is essential.

Two years animal husbandry experience and/or DMZZA or other animal care qualification.

•          Responsible mature attitude and team player.

•          Good communication and customer service skills.

•          High level of physical fitness.

•          Good practical skills, for example fencing and enclosure repair work.

You will be required to work from 8am to 4pm (winter) and 8am to 6pm (summer) five days a week on a rota basis. This will include weekends and bank holidays as necessary.

Salary will be dependant on skills, experience and qualifications.
