Our client, the
Assiniboine Park Conservancy is seeking a highly qualified Senior Director,
Animal Care and Conservation to drive the Zoo’s strategic directions and ensure
the effective management of animal management and conservation functions of the
organization. Guided by the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s visionary strategic
plan and working collaboratively with a professional, integrated team, you will
oversee, establish, implement and maintain standards aligned with accredited
zoological practices for all aspects of animal management, veterinary services,
conservation and research.
Reporting to the
President & CEO, you will establish achievable development goals and
targets for the department and effectively allocate and deploy resources to
exceed expectations and enhance the customer experience. You will contribute to
the design process for future exhibit and lifecycle upgrades and overall master
plan development and refurbishment plans. You will ensure the implementation of
progressive financial and human resource management processes to sustain a high
performance organization. This is a visible, senior-level position with
significant responsibility for resources, staff, animals, assets and results.
You will bring to
this position a master’s degree in zoology, veterinary medicine, conservation
or a related field complemented by a minimum of 10 years senior management
experience with responsibility for the full scope of financial, human resources
and animal management and conservation operations within an accredited
zoological institution. You will bring extensive knowledge of accreditation
standards and conservation programs of accrediting bodies as well as how to
apply best practices in animal husbandry and conservation. Most importantly,
you will have excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
that will support the establishment of positive relationships with other APC
team members, donors, accreditation bodies, educational institutions, community
groups, colleagues, the media and the general public. Experience leading in a

This is a permanent,
full time position located in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada located at 55 Pavilion
Crescent (postal code R3P 2N6). This is an English speaking role, however,
bilingual in French is considered an asset. It offers a competitive compensation
package with a salary in the range of $122,000-$165,000 CAD, health, dental,
life insurance, accidental death and disability, health care spending account,
long-term disability, group RRSP, an employee assistance plan and 5 weeks of
vacation.
