Since its
opening in 2009, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has evolved to become the UK’s number
1 on-foot safari. We feature walkthrough exhibits that take the guest directly
into the world of the animals. A dynamic centre for conservation and welfare,
the park currently has over 400 animals across more than 70 different
species. Over the next five years the
park is planning multi-million pound unique and innovative developments which
will introduce charismatic new species to the park, including a large breeding
group of Californian Sealions.
An exciting
opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to establish and lead
our newly formed Aquatics section. The successful candidate will be responsible
for the management of a mixed section range of species, including a large group
of sealions. The section will continue to grow as the park develops. The
Aquatics section will be responsible for the delivery of engaging talks and
presentations throughout the day, including shows and behind the scenes
experiences. This role will play an integral part in the management and shaping
of our conservation education work. Provision and facilitation of an exemplary
guest experience will be a key objective for the team and the successful
candidate will be adept at engaging with audiences of all sizes.
This role
will influence the design, establishment and management of new animal
facilities and ensure the best possible husbandry, health and welfare
standards. Team Leaders manage both the animal and ranger operations of the
section therefore people management experience is essential for this role.
To be
considered, candidates must hold a Diploma in the Management of Zoo and
Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or a degree level qualification in an animal related
subject area. In addition, they will demonstrate comprehensive experience
working within zoological collections, including experience managing a range of
mammal species, preferably including marine mammals. The successful candidate
will also have experience of leading and managing a team of staff.
This is a
full time, permanent position which will include weekend, evening and bank
holiday work.
