Exmoor Zoo is looking to take on an experienced animal Keeper. The individual will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and physically fit. Considerable experience working as a keeper in zoological institutions is required as well as a driving licence due to the remoteness of the zoo.

 

The duties will be to work in the general keeper team and help in the running of their departments to ensure high standards of welfare and husbandry for the carnivores, reptiles, primates and paddocks stock. You will need to be a good team worker, be able to motivate colleagues, show initiative, have a positive outlook, and take responsibility for all the welfare of the animals under your care. You will also play an integral role in training and enrichment of the animals as well as maintenance of their enclosures.

 

Requirements of the position;

 

Ideally, you would require a minimum of twelve months full time employment in a recognised Zoo environment as a keeper. It will also be expected that you have some experience with the more common species kept with our collection (small to medium cats & dogs, capybara, sitatunga, etc.)..

 

You should be prepared to gain or ideally have passed the DMZAA or equivalent.

 

Hold a full U.K. driving licence and have your own vehicle due to location.

You will be required to work Bank Holidays and weekends.

 

You will have two fixed days off per week.

 

Wages will be c £17,500,000 - £19,000 P/A depending on suitability and experience.
