About us:

The Ventura Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to worldwide wildlife conservation and education. We are involved in the conservation of rare and endangered species through breeding, habitat protection, community engagement and reintroduction programmes.

Our new conservation centre and headquarters is situated in Croxley Green, Hertfordshire within 15 acres containing lakes, meadows, and forests.  Within our facility we care for species including zebra, kangaroo, binturong, porcupine, emu, tamarin, marmoset, lemur, mongoose, fossa, pelican, flamingo, macaw, various giant tortoise species and dwarf crocodile, amongst many others.

 

The Role:

The Ventura Wildlife Foundation is seeking a responsible, hardworking, and dedicated animal keeper to join our team. The successful applicant will be required to complete daily animal husbandry tasks including cleaning and feeding. The role will include various other aspects such as enclosure maintenance, stock taking, enrichment, maintaining accurate records and instructing volunteers and interns.

 

All keepers are expected to be able to carry out educational talks on open days and private animal encounters for a variety of age groups. As part of this role the Foundation will provide the successful applicant with on-going training and development opportunities.

 

The Applicant:

We are looking for a practical and efficient individual with experience of working within a zoological environment. The individual must be confident and willing to work with a wide variety of different animal species, both individually and as part of a small team. Applicants need to have meticulous attention to detail and a strong level of responsibility and initiative.

 

The applicant must be prepared to work outdoors all year round and have a good level of physical fitness. An ability to work safely and responsibly is essential.

 

A UK driving licence, ability to use Microsoft Office and an understanding of ZIMS are advantageous to this role.

 

The Particulars:

Working 35-40 hours per week, based on a five-day week including weekends and bank holidays. A flexible approach to working hours is essential.
