Animal Care (The Mirage)

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

As a Dolphin Care Specialist III, you will be responsible for being directly involved in the daily interaction’s healthcare and training of the Mirage dolphin population and to mentor Dolphin Care Specialists Level IV in all aspects of guest service, animal husbandry, animal training, and facility operations.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop animal training skills, complete all Dolphin Care “Phase Training”, maintain and improve animal behavior and increase behavioral repertoire of all assigned dolphins
  • Learn and become proficient at all back of the house and support duties which include but are not limited to; food preparation for dolphins, cleaning and sanitation of Food Prep and cleaning and maintenance of all other animal husbandry areas
  • Administer daily vitamins and prescribed medications
  • Assist in the safe restraint of dolphins for medical procedure and/or transport, which may include endoscopy, ultrasound, radiographs, and other necessary veterinary procedures
  • Collect medical samples as directed by management and veterinarian; perform daily observations of all dolphins and report any abnormalities and concerns
  • Comply with all USDA regulations pertaining to marine mammals; acquire knowledge and maintain a working understanding in the areas of animal husbandry, natural history, animal health and anatomy
  • Develop basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
  • Assist in the cleaning of pools under the direction of the Dive Safety Officer
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested
