Cologne Zoo is one of the most traditional and popular zoos in Germany. Founded in 1860, it welcomes more than a million guests every year. With 10.000 animals from more than 840 different species Cologne Zoo is one of the most species-rich in Europe. The zoo is an experience and relaxation area. It mediates knowledge about the animals living here and raises awareness for the protection of their fellow species living in the wild. Cologne Zoo is involved in numerous species conversation projects around the world.

 

 

The AG Zoologischer Garten Köln (Cologne Zoo) is looking for a trained person for the bird section as of now

 

Zoo animal keeper with craft certificate (m,f,d).

 

 

You are suitable if you have successfully completed your qualification as a zoo animal keeper and you already have experience in keeping birds and the resulting expertise.

 

We are involved in numerous conservation breeding and re-introduction programs, e.g. for the threatened Bali myna, purple-naped lory, wattled crane or marbled duck. More than 300 species are kept in the bird department of the Cologne Zoo. More than 1/3 of them are globally threatened. Our focus is on keeping water birds, storks, ibises, cranes and fruit doves.

 

In addition to the general animal care tasks -such as food preparation, cleaning of animal enclosures and rearing and breeding - we expect you to work creatively and team-oriented in the redesign and construction of animal facilities. We attach particular importance to the constantly improving quality of our animal husbandry and increasing the attractiveness of the particular zoo section both in the public area and behind the scenes. This includes, inter alia, the performance of commented feedings and guided tours.

 

Experience in the field of bird care and their breeding is particularly advantageous. Furthermore you should be willing to do minor unskilled craftsman work. Flexibility is a matter of course to you, so that you are able to assist in other areas of our Zoo in case of holiday or sickness cover.
