SENIOR KEEPER

 

 PEAK WILDLIFE PARK

Working as a Senior Animal Keeper at Peak Wildlife Park, not only will you be hands on working with all of the park’s animals, you’ll also be responsible for assisting the Head Keeper and other members of the management team in the day to day running of the park. It is a diverse role carrying a level of responsibility ranging from assisting with animal records and veterinary procedures to ensuring keeping staff  consistently maintain the highest standards of animal care. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Working with a diverse range of animals, covering all areas of animal husbandry
  • Engaging with members of the public and carrying out one-to-one animal experiences
  • Delivering talks and presentations
  • Record Keeping
  • Assisting with the training and development of staff.
  • Routine maintenance and cleaning of animal enclosures.
  • Assisting with the preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding procedures
  • Prepare, carry out and monitor a range of veterinary procedures as instructed by the Head Keeper and Lead Vet
  • Ensuring that safety and emergency procedures are followed at all times

Key Skills & Requirements:

  • 4 year’s experience working as an animal keeper as part of a zoological collection.
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
  • Positive attitude towards personal growth & a comprehensive knowledge of animal husbandry
  • Excellent team worker with excellent communication skills.
  • Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals and Aquaria (DMZAA) or similar, relevant qualification
  • Experience working with category one animals, especially large carnivores
  • Proven history in a supervisory role
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Firearms License (desirable)

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. 

Pay will be dependent on experience and will include other company benefits.
