Bird Keeper

Full time 40 hours per week

A vacancy has arisen for a bird keeper to join Bristol Zoo’s Animal Department. Key elements of this position include bird husbandry, aviary maintenance, avian behaviour, nutrition and health management. 

This is a full time position working on average 40 hours per week as part of the section rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.  Full details, including job descriptions and person specifications, are available at www.bristolzoo.org.uk
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a proven record of expertise in animal management, aviculture or ornithology. Previous employment and/or voluntary work in captive bird collections, wildlife rehabilitation or field conservation programmes is essential. Proficiency in other skills relevant to the bird keeper role will also be advantageous (e.g. horticulture, DIY, food preparation).

The starting salary is £17,860 per annum for keepers with appropriate professional qualifications e.g. DMZAA. The starting salary is £15,276 per annum for unqualified keepers, until such qualifications are gained.
