Elephant Keeper



(Salary commensurate with experience)

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is home to the largest breeding herd of African elephants in the UK. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team of dedicated Elephant Keepers at Howletts Wild Animal Park.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a genuine passion for elephant welfare.

This is a physically demanding job and duties will include heavy lifting and strenuous cleaning, as well as enclosure maintenance, browse cutting and operation of vehicles such as tractors and dumper trucks.

Candidates must have excellent observation skills, be computer literate and comfortable delivering educational talks and section tours to small groups.
A full valid driving licence is essential for the role.  Experience working with elephants would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be given.

This role is full time working 5 days a week, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours which may include weekends and bank holidays.
