Keeper: Birds and Pets

Twycross Zoo is at a
very exciting stage of development with the first phase of a 20 year masterplan
underway. The plan will see the zoo developing new habitats for a refreshed
animal collection and enhanced visitor experience. Twycross Zoo is at the forefront
of conservation, education and research. It has a strong commitment to its
award winning education programme which aims to increase the level of
awareness, knowledge and understanding about the animals and their plight in
the wild.
We currently have a
vacancy for a Trainee Animal Keeper to work on our Birds & Pets sections.
These areas manage a range of birds and animals including hornbills, flamingos,
penguins, parrots, some reptiles, small mammals, domestic animals and invertebrates.
The Trainee Animal Keeper will also provide support to our primates section as
and when required.
Key Responsibilities:
· Basic animal
husbandry and regular interaction with the public
Key Skills & Requirements:
· Enthusiastic,
motivated and with an interest in zoo animal management and education
· Committed to
continued professional development
· A good team worker
· Previous zoo
keeping experience and a relevant animal-related qualification
The role is a
permanent full time position; working on average 5 days out of 7 (includes
weekend duties on a rota system) 08:00- 18:00 (17:00 in winter), with paid
breaks of 45 minutes and 60 minutes unpaid.
Salary is paid
monthly, 31 days paid holiday per annum.
