The Oceanarium is
seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Penguin Keeper to join the team and be
at the forefront of the new Penguin Beach Encounter experience.
Firmly established
as one of the area’s most popular visitor attractions, the Oceanarium is home
to a diverse range of creatures - from sharks and otters, to turtles and
crocodiles!
The penguin keeper
will provide the highest standards of care for the Oceanarium Humboldt penguin
colony, in addition to the Inca terns that share the exhibit.
A key role in an
exciting new facility, the keeper will be responsible for the maintenance,
cleanliness and operation of the entire Penguin Beach area, offering regular
talks, feeds and interactive opportunities to provide a captivating and
immersive experience for visitors throughout the day.
The highest
standards of animal welfare and husbandry must be followed at all times,
ensuring all zoo licence regulations and BIAZA guidelines are adhered to and
that related administration duties are fulfilled.
The role also
includes the maintenance of the penguin quarantine area, as well as maintaining
the plantroom and LSS for all the exhibits in the new facility.
The ideal candidate
will have penguin keeping and presenting experience along with several years of
working with a wide variety of creatures and systems. Relevant qualifications
are an advantage along with an organised, structured approach and can-do outlook.
A salary of up to
£18,000 is offered, along with a performance related bonus, company pension
scheme and life assurance.
The position
includes on-call responsibilities on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank
holiday working.
