Salary: up to £18,866
Post: Full time (initial 6 months
probationary period) 40 hrs per week – 5 days over 7 including weekends and
bank holidays on a rota.
Principal
location of work: Newent,
Gloucestershire with flexibility to travel to other sites for specific tasks if
required

manager: Curator
Qualifications

Overall purpose
of post and main duties:
Assist with cleaning and maintaining
aviaries and general site maintenance, such as painting etc
Assist with training and flying birds
of prey for demonstrations and other visitor experiences
Assist your team colleagues in all
relevant duties to do with both bird care and husbandry and customer
service/front of house duties such as interacting with the public, answering
questions and giving directions etc.
Assist with guided tours of the Centre
and the cover of school visits and outreach events when necessary.
Assist with duties related to caring
for injured wild birds and looking after the health of the collection birds as
required.
Develop your understanding and
knowledge of the birds in the collection, including your understanding of
conservation issues in relation to projects undertaken by the Centre.
Be familiar with legislation relating
to relevant conservation project/s, such as health and safety, CITES
regulations and the Wildlife and Countryside Act etc.
Work closely with management and
other bird staff team members. Ensure your line manager is consulted
and updated regularly.
Encourage good relationships with all
other centre departments. Network with other zoo professionals
to maintain good relationships between the
centre and external organisations.

Curator or Director of the Centre

PERSON
SPECIFICATION
Essential:
1. Education/Training -
GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English
and Science
2. Relevant Experience -
Ability to demonstrate practical
experience with birds of prey husbandry
Ability to demonstrate experience in
flying / training birds of prey with a minimum of 6 months practical
experience. (private/voluntary or employed)
Ability to demonstrate excellent
communication skills
3. Relevant Skills/Aptitudes
-
Interpersonal/team working skills
Public speaking / presentation skills
to a variety of audiences
Ability to work with a varied team
including volunteers
Problem solving and creativity
Willingness to actively seek and act
on advice.
Willingness to adapt existing
practices to align with ICBP methods and standards.
Basic practical DIY skills

Full driving licence
Flexibility
Ability to work weekends, bank
holidays and some evenings
Ability to work under pressure

Experience with a variety of bird of
prey species of varying sizes, including falcons and eagles.
Experience of public flying
demonstrations or similar public speaking
Experience in a bird of prey centre or
zoo setting
