Large Carnivore Keeper (Full Time)
The Zoological Society of Hertfordshire (ZSH) currently has a vacancy for an experienced Zookeeper to join our diverse and skilled team at Paradise Wildlife Park, with the opportunity of working with a range of taxa.
All our zookeepers are involved in a full range of husbandry duties including general enclosure cleaning, food provisions, husbandry training, and enrichment programmes. 
The position advertised is working on our Large Carnivore section. This section is responsible for the husbandry of Amur Tigers, Jaguars, Snow Leopards, Lions and Wolves. As part of our tiger exhibit the team is also responsible for the management of Koi and Grass Carp. This section has received huge investment in recent years and is responsible for three of our brand-new habitats - Lion Pride Lands, Land of the Tigers and Jaguar Jungle (currently under construction). These exhibits provide advanced safety features and modern husbandry facilities. 
All our Keepers deliver interactive conservation education across the zoo and the successful applicant will be actively involved in delivering a range of Experiences and Keeper Talks. 
Paradise Wildlife Park also has a team of volunteers that the keeper may work alongside and supervise. The applicant must be very personable and able to communicate well with visitors and staff. 

Job Details:
•    Full time; Permanent position (Summer 08.00-17.00, Winter 08.00-16.30)
•    Includes weekend and bank holiday work on a flexible rotated basis (1 in 3 weekends off)
•    Flexibility is necessary in this post

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include: 
•    Carrying out and enforcing high standards of welfare and animal husbandry routines (food prep, feeding, cleaning, enrichment provision etc.) set by Section Leader
•    Undertake and record accurate animal observations
•    Deliver high standards of visitor interaction in the form of Keeper Talks, Encounters, Experiences, Tours and Education Events
•    Overseeing volunteers, work experience students and trainee staff 
•    Liaise and assist in general duties and requirements as directed by senior management
•    Other duties to support effective and efficient running of the site (including Fire Marshall, First Aider, Company vehicle driver and general site maintenance)

Requirements: 
•    2 years full-time experience in a zoological collection – Category 1 species experience preferable
•    An animal science related qualification
•    Excellent communication skills
•    Adaptable for a flexible rota
•    Physically fit for the demands of this role
•    Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (as Paradise Wildlife Park is not accessible by public transport)
