Position Summary:

A Marine Mammal Trainer will form and work within the Animal Care team responsible, under supervision, for the safety, health and wellbeing of the animals under their care.  Demonstrates excellent representation of the company at all times through a positive, can-do attitude and teamwork focused work ethic.   

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

·      Involvement in all aspects of daily animal care and maintenance including animal training, environmental enrichment, diet preparation and feeding, behaviour observation, data base records entry, monitoring animal health, animal handling for medical care. 

·      Clean and maintain the entire facility, including the animal exhibits. 

·      Interact directly with visitors and guests regularly and ensure superb guest experience / visitor interaction while maintaining high levels of health and safety for all. 

·      Learn and successfully apply basic operant conditioning techniques. 

·      Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and staff training programs. 

·      Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

·      Possess good verbal and written communication skills within the English language. 

·      Conduct themselves in a professional, positive manner with co-workers and guests. 

·      Minimum of 1-2 years of experience training and caring for marine mammals.

·      SCUBA certified and ability to pass a dive physical examination is desirable.

·      Strong understanding of animal training principles and techniques (operant conditioning) as well as environmental enrichment principles and techniques.

·      Comfortable working in and around deep water without the use of flotation devices. 

·      Have knowledge of animal husbandry procedures, contemporary animal training, environmental enrichment techniques, proper dietary and medical care of the animals. 

·         Work well under direction and has the capacity to absorb feedback. 

·             High school or college level course work desirable with good academic science background.
