Senior Keeper – Hoofstock

Senior Keeper – Hoofstock

Join our vibrant organisation!

As an action oriented conservation charity, Marwell Wildlife’s desire is to connect people with nature. Through enthusing people about the wonders of the natural world we’re certain they’ll share our passion to conserve it. Our success relies on two key things. The impression we create through our 140 acre zoological park, Marwell Zoo, with its wide array of exotic and endangered species and the family of talented people we employ who share our passion and bring our vision to life.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Senior Keeper.

For the right candidate, this post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide range of hoofstock species from Dorcas Gazelle to White Rhino and contribute to captive breeding programmes with species such as Okapi, Grevys Zebra, Somali wild ass and Rothschild Giraffe.

This role is responsible for supporting both the team and the Team Leader and ensuring high standards of animal husbandry and welfare at all times whilst ensuring that all exhibits and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards. In order to achieve this, the successful candidate must possess current knowledge of issues affecting zoological collections and their contributions to conservation, science, sustainability & education.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate the importance of team work and the benefits of self-motivation. You must possess strong communication skills to be able to fulfill your role as ambassador with our guests and key contributor within your team.

The successful candidate will have specialist taxonomic knowledge and experience in Hoofstock with a minimum Level 3 (ANC / DMZAA) or equivalent qualification in animal management or biological sciences.

Placed in the top 20 of the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Not-For-Profit organisations, we know that our future plans will only be delivered through a great team of highly motivated people. We’ll provide a generous package and the opportunity to further develop your professional skills and abilities, to have a big say in future plans and of course, a fantastic working environment!

Accommodation may be available on a short term basis to the successful candidate. Please note this would incur a rental cost. Due to the need to drive park vehicles, candidates must also hold a full driving license valid for the UK.
