Watatunga Tour Guide

Watatunga Tour Guide

The team at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve are looking for an additional tour guide to lead our electric buggy tours.

About us:  Watatunga is a new wildlife reserve in Watlington, west Norfolk which opened to the public in August 2020.  Situated amongst 170 acres of woodland, grassland and lakes, Watatunga provides a unique environment for over twenty types of ungulate and rare bird species to roam at their will.  Guest access to the reserve is via guided buggy tours only.

About you:  We are looking for someone with friendly and welcoming demeanour, a passion for conservation and a deep knowledge of ungulates and/or U.K. flora and fauna. Every tour at Watatunga is different and you’ll need excellent interpretive skills as there is no ‘script’ to follow.  You must be capable of bringing our conservation work to life for visitors and have excellent presentation skills. While we don’t need you to be an expert on all of our animas from the outset, we do require a good level of knowledge and a proven track record of interest in wildlife.  We are looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and will bring a positive attitude and observant eye to the role.

About the role:  This role would be 5 days a week, Wednesday-Saturday inclusive from March to October.  You would lead 2 or 3 tours daily and each tour lasts 1.5 hr.  As guide, you would meet and greet guests, lead the tour around the reserve and have the freedom to choose routes based on your understanding of the animals’ behaviour, time of day and season.  The tour is delivered via a radio which transmits to each of the following buggies.  You would be responsible for managing one volunteer who will be on hand to assist with meeting and greeting guests, disinfecting the buggies after each tour and keeping the visitor areas tidy.  We also have a wheelchair accessible trailer available on every tour which is towed behind the guide’s buggy.

We are looking to recruit as soon as possible so that we can train a candidate up to be ready to lead tours confidently by September.

Required skills or experience:

·      Two years’ relevant work that demonstrates ability to interpret what you see and bring it to life for an audience

·      Proven track record of live presenting

·      Ability to carry out basic vehicle checks and change a tyre

·      Clean driver’s license – and trailer driving license highly desirable

·      Excellent animal identification skills

How to apply:  Send a brief CV and cover letter along with a 1 minute video explaining why you are interested in the role and outlining your relevant experience. Please send this to info@watatunga.co.uk by Monday August 2nd 2021.  Salary will reflect a 40hr week for a 7 month period.
