Howletts & Port
Lympne Wild Animal Parks, in conjunction with the Aspinall Foundation, are a
charity based organisation committed to protecting rare and endangered animals
from extinction through captive breeding and reintroduction programmes.
Currently we are
seeking 2 self-motivated, enthusiastic and confident people to help undertake
our educational commitments. These full-time temporary positions, are 40 hours
a week including all weekends and public holidays from March-September 2015.
One post will be based at Howletts and one at Port Lympne.
Duties of the role
include presenting scheduled educational talks to our visitors, writing and
presenting educational talks to school and bespoke groups, to man the education
centre, to provide guided tours with small groups, to run our Junior Ranger and
Keeper Academy sessions on weekends and to create relevant education activities
linked to our themed events.
A good knowledge of
exotic wildlife and global animal conservation issues is a prerequisite. An
ability to communicate this knowledge to both the general public and more
informed audiences is essential.The ideal candidate will have previous
experience of teaching or working in an educator’s role, as experience in
presenting talks to the public is needed. You will be working alongside a full
time permanent Education Officer and helping to supervise a small team of
volunteers.
We are looking for
proactive, organised self-motivated people with good proven people skills who
is a confident and accomplished public speaker. At interview this must be
demonstrated through a prepared talk. One role will be based at Howletts and
one at Port Lympne but the successful candidates may be required to work at
either park as required. Therefore, your own transport is required.
