Team Leader of Animal Presentations

Team Leader of Animal Presentations

Full time 80 hours per fortnight
Salary £22,888 per annum

A vacancy has arisen for an accomplished bird trainer with proficient supervisory skills to join Bristol Zoo Garden’s Animal Department as Team Leader in the Presentations section. The Team Leader’s primary responsibility is to lead the Presentations team in the development and delivery of a programme of presentations to guests, including large-scale shows and guest experiences. Similarly, the Team Leader is responsible for the daily operations of the section, including husbandry, animal health, training regimes, management of resources, as well as enclosure maintenance. The Team Leader is the supervisor of personnel in the Presentations team and is responsible for compiling rotas, undertaking staff training, appraisals, coordinating volunteers and students, and other tasks relating to managing work performance. Additionally, the Team Leader will collaborate with other sections in the development of programmes for husbandry-related training throughout the organisation.

This is a full time position working on average 80 hours per fortnight as part of the section rota, which will include weekends and bank holidays.  Full details, including job descriptions and person specifications, are available at www.bristolzoo.org.uk
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a proven record of expertise in animal training, particularly with birds, as well as breadth of knowledge in all elements of captive animal husbandry. Previous experience in a coordinating/supervisory position within a captive animal collection is essential. Since a key element of this position is delivering engaging shows to large numbers of guests, applicants must be confident and proficient at presenting.

The salary is £22,888 per annum for Team Leaders, based on them having appropriate professional qualifications (e.g. DMZAA or Bachelors degree).
