Trainee Carnivore
Keeper
(6 month contract)
Howletts Wild Animal
Park, based in Kent is seeking a passionate, experienced, hardworking and motivated animal
keeper to work with a small team of enthusiastic and likeminded keepers on our carnivore section.
Howletts works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation; a charity committed to the conservation
of rare and endangered animals through breeding and reintroduction programmes.
For the right
candidate, this position offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide
range of species from Honey
badgers to Sumatran tigers and contribute to the breeding programmes of species such as
Asian wild dogs and Clouded leopards.
The Role
The successful
applicant will be expected to undertake general husbandry duties, conduct basic enclosure
furnishing, butchery, maintenance tasks and record keeping. You will have the opportunity to
develop your professional skills and abilities, and to contribute towards
future plans on the section.
The Person
The ideal candidate
will have previous experience gained in a similar main stream zoological collection,
preferably working with carnivores. Ideally you will possess good all round
animal husbandry skills, be
motivated and enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the carnivore species. This is a
physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit. You will
also need to be
comfortable working at height in order to perform enclosure maintenance duties.
A valid full UK
driving licence is essential.
