Bristol Zoological
Society has two new positions for Unqualified Keepers on its mammal section at
the Bristol Zoo Gardens site in Clifton, Bristol. These are practical positions
assisting in all aspects of management and husbandry of the Zoo’s mammal collection.
You will need to have a good level of physical fitness.
The successful
applicants will be experienced zoo mammal keepers, ideally with two years’
experience working with a diverse range of zoo mammals. Great ape and/or small
mammal experience would be an advantage. You will be expected to show a high
level of passion and motivation for the job.
A positive outlook,
the ability to work within a team and having a good knowledge of the
conservation and educational roles of zoos is also required. We are looking for
excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of
animal training. You will be expected to engage with our guests and deliver
regular talks.
The positions are
permanent, working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day
rota, which includes weekends and bank holidays. It may also include occasional
evening work.
The successful
applicant will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a
biological science.
