General Manager - Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS)

General Manager - Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS)

Location: Kamo, Whangarei, New Zealand
25 July 2017

General Manager
Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary is a privately-owned big cat sanctuary providing haven for 26 big cats: 18 lions, 5 tigers, 2 cheetahs and a leopard.  We have embarked on a major upgrade project that will meet containment standards and allow us to re-open the sanctuary for public tours.  With construction underway to create new enclosures and upgrade existing enclosures and facilities, it is now time to recruit an experienced senior manager to develop a world-class animal operation by ensuring all husbandry and welfare systems are in line with industry best practice.
Reporting to the managing trustee, the General Manager will have a background in managing a similar animal operation and have general business management skills, including organisational planning, executing strategic business objectives, recruitment planning, managing budgets and project management.  They will provide strong and effective leadership by drawing on their extensive experience of managing staff in a similar organisation.

The role’s key accountabilities include: strategic planning, business management; staff management and development, collection planning; best practice animal husbandry and welfare outcomes; containment systems including enclosure design and habitat maintenance; best practice health and safety protocols; and collaboration with various stakeholders including owners, industry partners, international animal welfare bodies, local council and government.

We are interested in candidates with relevant senior management experience who can demonstrate their achievements in a similar facility.  The role requires a strong and effective leader with well-developed communication skills, an understanding of the wider business environment and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of the industry and its desired outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to lead the business in developing a world-class facility at a crucial stage in its development.  A generous remuneration package will be negotiated based on skills and experience.

To apply for this position, please email deb@kamowildlifesanctuary.co.nz with a resume and a covering letter addressing your suitability and most relevant achievements.
