An exciting and fulfilling opportunity for the right candidate.

Muncaster Hawk and Owl Centre is recruiting new seasonal Bird Staff to join our dedicated and loyal team.

Experience flying a variety of raptors in public displays, experiences, commentating to large audiences and engaging with visitors is desired, as is experience flying falcons and eagles. Further training can and will be provided if required.

A passion for birds and their conservation is a must, as well as enthusiasm and a love of working outdoors. This role will suit a hardworking individual who can work both within a team and independently. 

Although a seasonal position, it may be possible for the right candidate to extend their season or transfer to full time contract.

Staff accommodation is available.

Competitive salary will be discussed at interview dependent on experience.

Job Purpose Highest standard of animal husbandry, displays, education and visitor experience.

Main Duties & Responsibilities                                      

Carry out daily bird husbandry and welfare. Involving cleaning and upkeep of aviaries.

Public flying displays. Free flying birds of prey and commentating to large audiences.

Experiences. Close encounters for visitors with the birds on a smaller one to one basis and leading wildlife tours.

Training birds. New bird arrivals will require training and experienced ones flown daily even if not in displays.

Centre and gardens maintenance and upkeep. Painting of aviaries and fences, grass cutting, plant tending etc.

Survey and monitoring. Some element of surveying and monitoring local wildlife may be required.
