The impression we create through our 140 acre zoological park, Marwell Zoo, with its wide array of exotic and endangered species and the family of talented people we employ who share our passion and bring our vision to life.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Keeper to join our Hoofstock team on a full time basis. For the right candidate, this post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide range of Hoofstock species from Dorcas Gazelle to White Rhino and contribute to captive breeding programmes with species such as Okapi, Grevys Zebra, Somali Wild Ass and Rothschild Giraffe.

Animal Keepers are responsible for carrying out all aspects of animal care, including husbandry routines, managerial operations and environmental enrichment, and supporting veterinary intervention as required.

The successful candidate will have a background in the keeping of a variety of Hoofstock species. You will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use your initiative, display an interest in and commitment to animal welfare and conservation, and must possess strong communication skills.

Williamson Park attracts over 200,000 visitors a year and is one of the North West’s premier tourism attractions as recognised by Visit England. The main visitor attraction on site is the Edwardian Butterfly House and Zoo. To maintain the facilities ever growing reputation we are looking for a dynamic and committed person to join our team.

Your responsibilities as a Zoo Keeper will include the day to day running of the Butterfly and Mini Beast Houses including feeding, watering, cleaning and maintaining the welfare of the collection. The successful candidate will also need to lead educational sessions, meet the keeper sessions and public talks.

The collection comprises of some of the world's most exotic butterflies and reptiles, insects, invertebrates and small mammals.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a minimum qualification of NVQ Level 3 standard in Animal Care or equivalent experience of working with a similar collection to ours.

Experience in a customer facing role is essential, as is the ability to work both with and without supervision. The post holder will be expected to work evenings and weekends on a shift rota basis.

A full current UK driving licence is required to be reactive to animal welfare and transport equipment.

The hours of work are 37 hours per week, working on a shift rota basis including evenings, weekends and bank holidays and you will be based at Williamson Park.
