At Atlantis The Palm, Dubai, we have a unique opportunity for an Aquarist to join our team of professionals.

The successful applicant will provide and oversee healthy living conditions, proper nutrition and constant care for all marine and freshwater animals. This will also include feeding schedules, daily maintenance of facilities, water analysis and animal observations, while recognizing diseases and administering fish treatments

The successful candidate must also possess the following to be considered:
· Hold a PADI open water Scuba Certification or equivalent
· Hold a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Biology, Zoology, Marine Science or related field
· 2 years minimum aquarium experience
· Possess sound computer skills including all Microsoft applications
· Possess knowledge of local and exhibit animals including: identification by common and scientific names, and external fish anatomy
· Has basic understanding of Quarantine protocols, regimes, treatments, animal transport and handling
· Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
· Enjoy guest interaction with the ability to display a high level of customer service and passion for marine life
· Must be of single status and no dependents

The job requires the following tasks:

  • Feed, clean and monitor zoo animals to ensure their health and comfort remains consistent.
  • Zookeepers are responsible for the wellbeing of the animals living in zoos.
  • Bathing, feeding and exercising.
  • Zookeepers must follow very specific feeding instructions for each animal, and keepers are often expected to work weekends and on holidays to ensure the animals are fed routinely.
  • Provide drinking water for the animals, keep their living spaces clean, and help train or entertain them.
  • Monitoring the animals and making sure they do not become sick or injured.
  • Keep notes on their eating habits, watch for odd behavior, and provide veterinarians with relevant information about their health.


You'll also be educating the visitors as keepers will often be the first point of contact, so be prepared to answer any questions people may have. You may even have to give presentations or demonstrations to school children or help with conservation and research projects.

Zoo keepers are animal professionals who are responsible for maintaining the health of their charges as well as ensuring proper maintenance of their habitat. The duties of a zoo keeper usually include feeding, administering medication, cleaning and maintaining the animal’s enclosure, reporting unusual changes in behavior to managers or veterinarians, assisting with veterinary procedures, keeping detailed records, and educating the general public.

Zoo keepers must be prepared to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

We are looking for :
  • Someone who can demonstrate a genuine interest in animals and their welfare and an interest in conservation. Someone who is fit and healthy, not afraid of hard physical work and prepared to work regular weekends.
  • Someone who is self-disciplined and a team player. Also someone who is happy to talk to visitors and answer questions.

Senior Trainer of Penguins




Ski Dubai is looking for a further Senior Trainer of Penguins for its exciting and successful project in the United Arab Emirates.

Joining an experienced International team the Senior Trainer will be responsible for the daily management of staff, daily husbandry, penguin training and leading all high quality penguin presentations


Key Tasks:

  • Operate daily training of penguins regarding daily march, feeding and photo sessions with the public
  • Evident knowledge of effective training techniques, applications, and tools
  • Assist in penguin husbandry and cleaning
  • Maintain daily training records
  • Interact with the public with ease and have good communication skills
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Zoology or related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 4 years of training experience, preferably with marine mammals

job purpose
Responsible for assisting the Curator, Assistant Curator, Senior Supervisor, and Supervisors in the acquisition, quarantine and daily care of a living collection of aquatic and terrestrial organisms at The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, and the conduct of internal and external research and monitoring activities.
nature & Scope
The job holder will be responsible for the daily care of all the animals within the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
dimensions
Undertake general and specialized husbandry and curatorial duties to ensure optimal care of Aquarium and Underwater Zoo animals.
principal accountabilities
· Assists the Curator, Assistant Curator, Senior Supervisor, and Supervisors in maintaining the highest level of quality as it relates to the aquarium’s public and exhibit image
· Follow established written standards and protocols (SOP’s) for all exhibits to ensure the highest standards for water quality, operational efficiency, cleanliness and animal health
· Daily activities related to cleaning, maintenance, feeding and other husbandry activities required on a day-to-day basis, including routine checking of all aquarium exhibits and LSS areas.
· Provide feedback to superiors on improvements to animal care, LSS, exhibits and activities/protocols.
· Report issues and assist in the development of actions to rectify any faulty equipment or problems, in particular identify animal health or water quality problems and report to supervisor, medical and water quality staff and assist to develop a plan of action to handle the care and treatment of affected animals.
· Maintain all curatorial areas so they are safe and clean.
· Assists the Supervisor in maintaining an inventory of supplies, equipment and animal food items necessary for the daily care of the collection
· Work as a team with Guest Services and Front of House to provide a quality experience for guests and a safe and comfortable work environment for staff through continuous maintenance and improvement of visitor and behind-the-scenes spaces, including assisting Front of House with tour-guiding duties when necessary in and around the aquarium facility
· Deliver extraordinary customer service to all aquarium guests and other customers
· Assist in on-going aquarium research projects, both internally and externally
· Diving as required on a day to day basis, including maintenance diving, performance diving and shark/fish feeds, following company diving safety protocols and procedures and performing tasks to schedule and to an appropriate quality.
· Maintaining documentation and databases for diving, livestock (animal health and behaviour, acquisitions and mortalities), water quality, etc, where asked.
Qualifications & Experience (Competencies Required)
· A higher school degree in Biology, preferably Marine Biology or Oceanography or equivalent work experience
· Experience in maintaining an aquarium
· Open Water SCUBA certification from a recognized training agency.
· Computer skills an advantage
· Current Dubai driver’s license an advantage
· Any experience Birds or Reptiles is an advantage

Lead Aquarist/Keeper





A unique position has come up for a Lead aquarist/Keeper in a facility in Dubai.  The area to be assigned to this position is the Reptile section, so the candidate must have strong experience in keeping Snakes, Dwarf Crocodiles, Caiman crocodiles, Amphibs and a range of creepy crawly type insects.  This person must have leadership skills and good organization skills. Penguin Trainer



FCC Fleming is looking for a Penguin Trainer for an exciting new project in United Arab Emirates.


The trainers will participate in the husbandry and training of the penguin collection, including the maintenance of holding area, preparation of diets/penguin feeding and the set-up and maintenance of presentation areas.


Key Tasks:

  • Monitor and perform daily feeding and training of Antarctic penguins
  • Monitor penguins during public demonstrations
  • Clean exhibit on a daily basis, including touch-up after presentations
  • Observe penguins for signs of stress or illness
  • Keep records current each day
  • Public speaking for penguin presentations and guest orientation
  • Performs other duties as required


Qualifications:
