Bristol Zoological
Society is recruiting for an Animal Keeper on its mammal section at the Bristol
Zoo Gardens site in Clifton, Bristol. This is to cover a period of maternity
leave starting in March 2017 and likely to last until May 2018. It is a part-time
position working 32 hours per fortnight as part of the 14 day departmental rota
which will include weekends and bank holidays. There also might be occasional
evening work.
This is a practical
position assisting in all aspects of management and husbandry of the Zoo’s
mammal collection. You will need to have a good level of physical fitness.
The successful
applicant will be an experienced zoo mammal keeper, with a minimum of two
years’ experience working with a diverse range of zoo mammals. Great ape and/or
small mammal experience would be an advantage. You will be expected to show a
high level of passion and motivation for the job.
A positive outlook,
the ability to work within a team and having a good knowledge of the
conservation and educational roles of zoos is required. We are looking for
excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of
animal training. You will be expected to engage with our guests and deliver
regular talks.
The successful
applicant will be educated to at least GCSE level, including English and a
biological science.
