Birdworld is currently in an exciting stage of development and is delighted to be offering a unique career opportunity for a Bird Keeper to join our expanding animal team.

 

Working under the direction of the Aviculture Team Lead, and alongside our animal team you will focus your time on the day-to-day husbandry of our 180 species bird collection housed in 130 aviaries. You will have keen observation skills, great time management, basic maintenance skills, and be able to prioritise tasks to ensure exemplary care of the collection. We expect our keepers to offer exceptional and engaging experiences to our visitors, this might be hosting keeper for a day or feeding experiences, or sometimes assisting the education team with public presentations and outdoor flying displays in peak operational months.

 

You will hold an animal related qualification and have at least 2 years’ experience working with birds in a recognised zoo, enjoy working outside in all weathers, be physically fit and demonstrate a passion for aviculture.

 

This vacancy is a full time permanent position, working 38 hours a week, with weekend and public holidays being part of your working rota. The successful applicant will help the aviculture team in the daily husbandry needs of our large bird collection.
We are looking for a keen individual wishing to provide first class support within our avicultural team.
The ideal candidate will be fit, have a keen interest in birds, and be prepared to work in all weather conditions andhave at least 2 years working in a zoo with birds.

Full training will be given, though previous experience with avian husbandry is considered essential.

Closing Date: We are not setting a closing date but will fill the position as soon as we have a suitable candidate, so please do not delay your application!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Aviculture Team at Birdworld Bird Park and Gardens, comprising Birdworld, Underwater World and the Jenny Wren Farm, in Farnham, Surrey.

The Aviculture team is responsible for the daily care of the main bird collection, comprising close to 200 species, and the Aquarium with 31 displays including fresh and saltwater. We are looking for an able bird keeper with proven practical skills and a hands on approach.  You will lead a team of dedicated keepers and work closely with other teams as well as with the curator to ensure high standards of animal care and public display are met at all times.

Required:
  •  At least 4 years working in a zoological collection in a supervisory/ deputising capacity
  •  Motivated individual who can lead a team effectively and communicate well with colleagues
  •  Experience of artificial incubation and hand rearing of a variety of species· Experience in delivery of medications (as prescribed by our vet)
  •  Basic DIY skills associated with enclosure maintenance and enrichment· Some experience in developing and maintaining planting within enclosures for both husbandry and visitor needs
  •  Be comfortable in giving public keeper talks
  •  Excellent written English
  •  Understand the importance of good records and accurate, timely reporting
  •  Ability to help to develop team members through training and assessment of skills
  •  Full clean driving license
  •  Passion for Birds and Conservation

Preferred:
  •  Tertiary qualification in a biological science / Animal Management
  •  Experience with ZIMS
  •  Experience with force free animal training for husbandry / animal management

The successful applicant will help the keeping team in the daily husbandry needs of our aquarium, bird and mammal areas, with the main emphasis being in the aquarium.

We are looking for a keen individual wishing to join our enthusiastic team of dedicated keepers.

The ideal candidate will be fit, have a keen interest in aquatics, and be prepared to work in all weather conditions. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, willing and knowledgeable, whilst being keen to learn more and having a good team ethic.

Full training will be given, though previous experience with aquatic husbandry would be a benefit.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Education / Presentations Team at Birdworld Bird Park and Gardens, comprising Birdworld, Underwater World and the Jenny Wren Farm, in Farnham, Surrey.

The education team is responsible for the planning and delivery of educational sessions and presentations offered to the general public and to visiting schools and colleges. The team is specifically responsible for the training and husbandry of birds and animals used in presentations and also work with the aviculture team responsible for the husbandry and welfare of bird stock throughout the park. In addition to this the team produces content for park interpretation and species signs and delivers our outreach program to schools and care homes.

The education team works closely with the aviculture team, sharing responsibility for the provision of high quality animal husbandry and education throughout the park.
This role is with a passion for zoo education including both day visitors and formal group visits.

Required:
•        Motivated individual who can work alone and as part of a team
•        Confident in public speaking to audiences of all ages
•        Experience of keeping and training birds/animals
•        Excellent written English
•        Tertiary qualification in a biological science
•        Full, clean driving license

Preferred:
•        Experience with delivering presentations in a captive animal collection
•        Experience in the education sector

We have a vacancy for a Keeper / Aquarist to join our team.
The role will involve all aspects of water and stock management in our small aquarium ensuring high standards of animal welfare and public display.
We have over 30 aquatic displays within the aquarium, ranging from freshwater to marine and including dwarf crocodiles.
We are seeking someone with a proven record working in the aquatic environment, ideally in a public collection.
Our aquarium staff also assist with aquatic systems out in the wider bird park and with other tasks as necessary.
An understanding of water management and the care of a wide range of stock is required. An understanding of basic health and safety in the workplace is expected, some DIY skills and knowledge of the particular regulations affecting the operation of zoos would be beneficial.
