We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Keeper to join us on our Giraffe section.

Chester Zoo aims to set a benchmark for animal welfare and the successful candidate must be able to deliver an excellent level of animal husbandry, care and welfare for the assigned mammals; ensuring that all enclosures and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards. 
The successful candidate will have:
•        A HND or degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent experience
•        Proven experience in the care and management of a variety of hoof stock species in a zoo or safari park setting, as well as the highest standards of exhibitry
•        Outstanding observational skills with excellent attention to detail
•        Experience of operant conditioning and implementing environmental enrichment
•        Experience of working within strict Safe Working Practices
•        A full driving licence valid in the UK

Competency in the use of computers and basic software packages, including ZIMS software, would be advantageous for this role in order to maintain accurate records. 

Hours of work are 40 hours per week, worked 10 days out of 14, including weekends and Bank Holidays as rostered.

Dartmoor Zoo is a charity run Zoo which is currently undergoing an exciting period of change, and we are looking for people who can help us achieve this. We have developed substantially in the past 8 years, and are looking to continue that trend. We are situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, and just 7 miles from the historic city of Plymouth.

The role:
Dartmoor Zoo is looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Animal Department. You will perform general animal husbandry duties to a high standard with a wide range of animals including  big cats and other carnivores, small mammals, hoofstock, primates and birds. You will play an integral role in training, enrichment and maintenance of the animals and their enclosures, as well as supervising our Volunteers and Interns. No accommodation is offered with this role.

Requirements:
•    A minimum of two years’ full time paid employment in a recognised Zoological collection, working with some of the species mentioned above.
•    An animal related qualification such as DMZAA or similar, or the desire to obtain such qualifications.
•    The ability to assist in Veterinary procedures.
•    Applicants must have a full U.K. driving licence and their own vehicle due to location.
•    A Firearms licence is desirable, but not essential.
•    Excellent communication skills.
•    Good IT skills and a sound knowledge of record keeping.
•    Good team worker with a positive outlook.
•    Have some experience of enclosure maintenance and power tools.

You will work an average 40 hour week, including weekends, Bank Holidays and other days as required. Some evening work may be necessary for evening events. You will also comply with company policies and procedures regarding Health & Safety and administration. Salary will be £14,981. Previous applicants need not apply.

Dartmoor Zoo is currently looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work within our animal department. You will perform general animal husbandry duties to a very high standard with a wide range of animals including big cats, small mammals, hoof stock and birds. You will play an integral role in training, enrichment and maintenance of the animals and their enclosures.

Requirements:
Three years animal husbandry experience.
An animal related qualification such as ANCMZA or DMZAA.
Be able to assist in veterinary duties.
Hold a full UK driving licence due to location.
Have excellent communication skills.
A good team worker with a positive outlook.
Have reasonable IT skills and a knowledge of record keeping.
Two fixed days off per week.
You will be required to work bank holidays and other specified days for special events.
Work some evenings if required.

Our £4 million Animal Management Centre opened in 2010 and offers world class facilities including rooms for reptiles, amphibians and fish, a mammal hose, teaching and meeting rooms and an impressive entrance to the college’s zoo. We have 40 specialist staff over 800 students and more than 1000 animals of around 200 species.

Due to Reaseheath College’s continued expansion an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Keeper/Instructor in Aquatics to join our hard working and dynamic Keeper/Instructor team.
You will have at least 3 years’ experience within the aquatics industry including working with large life support systems. A wider range of knowledge covering reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds would be beneficial. The successful applicant will possess a vocational qualification in Animal Management or Equivalent discipline at Level 3 or above and a wide ranging experience of animal husbandry in both domestic and zoo animals.

The role will include supervising students, conducting radical sessions, doing assessments and ensuring relevant paperwork is completed on time and supporting lecturing staff in providing a high quality, effective.

Weekend work and bank holiday work will be necessary as required.

Chester Zoo is the UK’s No.1 top zoo and is also one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation breeding programmes, research and education.
The zoo is currently expanding with the exciting new ‘Islands’ site opening in spring 2015.  This unique and innovative project will provide an immersive experience; showcasing the animals of South-east Asia and working towards a better understanding of the vital conservation work being undertaken in this region.  As a result of this growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Mammal Keeper to join our carnivore team.
This post will involve the daily care and management of a variety of carnivore species including Asian Lions, Sumatran Tigers, African painted dogs, Malayan sun bears and Cheetahs to name a few.  Training will also be provided on several other mammal sections to cover any shortcomings in staffing levels.
Chester Zoo aims to set a benchmark for animal welfare and the successful candidate must be able to deliver an excellent level of animal husbandry, care and welfare for the assigned mammals; ensuring that all enclosures and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards. 
We are looking for someone with proven experience of working with carnivores and other relevant mammal species and experience of working in a zoo or safari park.  The successful candidate will be educated to HND or degree level in Zoo Animal Management/Zoological Science, or have the equivalent experience.  The Carnivore Mammal Keeper will need to have experience of operant conditioning, and an understanding of implementing environmental enrichment would be advantageous.  Experience of working within strict Safe Working Practices is vital for this role.
Competency in the use of computers and basic software packages is desirable for this role in order to maintain accurate records.  A full clean UK driving licence is also required.
Salary is £16,984 per annum for a 40 hour week on a rota basis (including some weekends and bank holidays).

Tropical Wings Zoo is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to take on this pivotal role.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Tropical House, including species management of invertebrates, planting and maintenance.  You will have involvement with the general public to answer questions and to contribute towards presentations and interpretation.  Your role will ensure that our collection is looked after to the highest standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1.        Carry out all essential functions of Animal Keeper/Presenter.
2.        Ensure the physiological and psychological maintenance of your animal collection, including health care.
3.        With the approval of your Manager, develop the butterfly collection and make suggestions in animal acquisition.
4.        Stay alert to new developments in the maintenance and presentation of the animals in your care.
5.        Have a special awareness for similar institutions within your field, current developments and new innovations elsewhere.
6.        Ensure butterfly stock maintains suitable levels in order to uphold the visual impact of the Tropical House.


About you:
To operate effectively in this role, practical experience in a similar environment is essential and experience of working with a range of relevant species desirable.  You must have the ability to work alone or as part of a team and have excellent presentation skill.  You must hold a full driving license

Blue Reef Tynemouth Aquarium, located on the North East coast, 6 miles from the centre of Newcastle up Tyne is seeking a full time Sea Lion Trainer/Keeper in its Mammal Department.

You will be responsible for the care, training and all aspects of animal husbandry of the aquariums two Californian Sea Lions. In addition to animal care and training, this position will also include daily maintenance of the Life Support System, cleaning, environmental enrichment, record keeping, presentations, media events and guest interactions.

The minimum requirements for this position are:

  •  Sea Lion training experience of at least 2 years
  •  An understanding of behavioural enrichment
  •  Current knowledge of natural history, animal behaviour and husbandry
  •  Team orientated attitude with good communication skills
  •  Strong public presentation skills and enthusiastic attitude
  •  Good level of physical fitness


This is a full time position and includes working weekends and bank holidays.

Auckland Zoo delivers exciting and educational visitor experiences that inspire and empower people to take positive action for wildlife and the environment, and is a leader in the field of zoo-enabled conservation.

Auckland Zoo recently opened the award-winning $15million NZ fauna precinct, Te Wao Nui, which is providing many new opportunities for the zoo to contribute to the conservation of New Zealand wildlife, both in the zoo and in the field. It features six zones displaying more than 60 native animal species (including invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds) and more than 110 native plant species.

The Ectotherm Keeper works as part of a team responsible for the daily husbandry and management of a diverse range of native reptiles, frogs, fish, and invertebrates species - including tuatara, Otago and chevron skinks, Archey's frog, long-fin eels and giant weta - as well as exotic species such as American alligators, Galapagos tortoises, Australian lizards and bird-eating spiders.

The organisation is committed to conservation in the field, as well as in the zoo, and all members of the Reptile & Invertebrate team are fortunate to regularly participate in a diverse range of field programmes in New Zealand.

A certificate in captive wild animal management or relevant tertiary qualification in biological sciences/conservation is required and a minimum of three years practical experience in a relevant animal collection is essential.We are looking for a specialist keeper with a comprehensive knowledge of the management and husbandry required for a range of reptile and other relevant species. You will be able to demonstrate high standards, possess exceptional attention to detail, be highly organised and keen to learn. Good team skills are essential whilst the ability to work independently and to show initiative is also crucial.

Auckland Zoo is expanding its field conservation programme, so the successful candidate will be expected to spend time working on conservation projects in the field. An interest in and aptitude for fieldwork is therefore essential and prior relevant experience would be an advantage.

Public speaking is part of every keeper's role, so we are also looking for a confident communicator who can demonstrate their passion for wildlife and inspire visitors through informal talks and animal encounters.

This is a full-time permanent role, working 40hrs per week on a 14-day roster system including weekends and public holidays. A high level of energy and physical fitness will enable you to meet the daily challenges of the role.

To meet the Zoo's operational needs, the successful candidate may occasionally be required to care for other animal taxa or undertake additional tasks at the Team Leader's and/or Curator's discretion.

Lead Aquarist/Keeper





A unique position has come up for a Lead aquarist/Keeper in a facility in Dubai.  The area to be assigned to this position is the Reptile section, so the candidate must have strong experience in keeping Snakes, Dwarf Crocodiles, Caiman crocodiles, Amphibs and a range of creepy crawly type insects.  This person must have leadership skills and good organization skills. The position will also support other areas of the facility including Penguins, fish and will certainly include diving duties.  In the future there may be an addition of some parrots type birds that will fall under the care of this position, so any bird experience is valuable.  Interested individuals should send a copy of their resume and a covering letter to:
