Flamingo Land zoological department is looking for a zookeeper to join our team.  Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year.  The zoo currently has over 130 species across a range of different taxa.  We have an active education department, our own research institute (in collaboration with the University of York) and an award winning conservation project in Tanzania.  The zoo is also a member of BIAZA, EAZA and WAZA.

Experienced Zookeeper
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on a variety of different sections within the zoo, including Children’s Planet (small carnivores and reptiles), the bird section, the primate section and large carnivores.  There may also be an opportunity to be trained on other animal sections within the zoo.  All of our zookeepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.  The successful candidate must have relevant experience of working in a zoological collection and have passed the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (or equivalent).  Experience with any of the above mentioned taxa would be an advantage, but you will receive direct training in the husbandry of these taxa. The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with the visitors, including delivering public talks. The successful candidate will also be enthusiastic and a good team player.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday the 16th of December 2015 and may include a practical assessment. Unfortunately, only successful applicants will be contacted.

English speaking. well presented and looking to advance their career.

Applicants must be enthusiastic, highly motivated & dedicated, with a keen interest in conservation, promoting our many in-situ projects, as well as the daily husbandry & care of our growing collection of animals.

Experience with a wide range of taxa if preferred, particularly primates and or birds. A full UK or European driving licence is also an advantage.

Flamingo Land Zoo is looking for an experienced zookeeper to join our team.  Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year.  The zoo currently has over 130 species across a range of different taxa.  We have an active education department, our own research institute (in collaboration with the University of York) and an award winning conservation project in Tanzania.  The zoo is also a member of BIAZA, EAZA and WAZA.   Zoo staff are actively encouraged to become involved in our education programme, research projects, visiting our conservation project and several staff including our zookeepers manage studbooks.

The successful candidate will be focused on working with a range of small mammals and reptiles, including meerkats, porcupines, coatis, Asian short-clawed otters, banded mongoose, warthog, Visayan warty pigs, red river hogs and more. There will also be an opportunity to be trained on other animal sections within the zoo.  All of our zookeepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.  The successful candidate must have at least two years experience working in a zoological collection and have passed the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (or equivalent).  Experience with any of the above mentioned species would be an advantage, but you will receive direct training in the husbandry of these species. The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with visitors, including delivering public talks. The successful candidate will also be enthusiastic and a good team player.

Interviews will take place on the 06th and 07th of March 2014.
