JOIN TEAM WILD

Would you like to play a critical role in saving some of Australia’s most endangered species?

Due to a restructure we have two positions available:

SENIOR KEEPER: Native Fauna

Zoos South Australia is in an exciting phase of new organisational restructure and conservation vision. A key driver in this structure has been to highlight the important role that native species play in supporting our vision. This position is based at Monarto Zoo, which has a native fauna collection numbering almost 200 specimens (with the majority of them being in intensive off-display breeding and breed/release programmes).

We will soon be focusing on how visitors get to meet some of the many native species held behind the scenes, and the successful applicant will be involved in this process.

Summary of Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Team Leader, this position takes on a leadership role and is expected to provide basic day to day management and direction for the Native Fauna team. This will include developing and supporting your team of keepers as well as overseeing the husbandry of a large and diverse Native Fauna collection. We seek a person who is ready to step into a role that is equally focussed on the management of the animal collection, leading and organising the team and their projects and challenges, and assisting the Team Leader to achieve strategic and operational objectives for both the collection and the team.

Ability and Experience

Sound experience in the husbandry and captive breeding of a variety of native species is required, and experience in the breeding of Tasmanian Devils would be advantageous. Your ability to deliver enthusiastic visitor experiences and present a professional image to the media will also be required to highlight the zoos in situ and ex situ conservation programmes. Also in this position you may be required to participate in field related work, which will require you to have good communication skill and cultural sensitivity’s, and the ability to form and maintain relationships with external parties.

KEEPER: Native Fauna

Reporting to the Senior Keeper of Native Fauna and as a member of the team mentioned above, this position will be focussed on the daily operations and husbandry aspects of the native fauna collection. Proven husbandry experience (preferably with native species), the ability to work well in a team and deliver public presentations are requirements of this position. Some field work in support of our breed and release programmes is likely and some field experience and knowledge of native species biology will be advantageous.
