Monkey World is currently home to over 250 primates of 20 different species. The majority of our primates are rescue animals from a variety of different backgrounds. Many have suffered years of abuse or neglect. On arrival at Monkey World these primates are rehabilitated into appropriate social groupings and provided with an environment which encourages them to express natural behaviours.

Job Description
The Primate Care Team is divided into six sections: Chimpanzees, Orang-utans, Gibbons, Capuchins, Woolly monkeys and a varied ‘small monkey’ section. Our primates enjoy large enclosures, varied enrichment and a comprehensive operant conditioning programme. We are looking to recruit experienced, motivated, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated team of Primate Care Staff.

Ideal candidates will possess:
•        At least 2 years relevant experience working with primates
•        Must be physically fit
•        Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
•        Experience of public speaking
•        Full clean driving licence essential due to location
•        A flexible friendly attitude

Desirable
A qualification in an animal related discipline
Experience of operant conditioning

Salary
Dependant on experience.

Condition of appointment
This position will be subject to a six-month probationary period

40hrs per week including weekends and bank holidays

Hobbledown in Epsom, Surrey, is currently looking for a Full time Senior Keeper to work within the Animal Department

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a zoological collection working with a range of taxon
  • Excellent leadership qualities and proven track record of supervising a team
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with, in particular exotic & domestic animals
  • The Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals – DMZAA, or equivalent
  • A good understanding of ZIMS and Zoo licencing would be advantageous
  • Good communication skills, enthusiasm, and an outgoing and friendly personality
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with our guests in a courteous and friendly manner and inspire our younger visitors
  • A presentable appearance, flexible in their approach to work, totally reliable, and be able to work effectively both within a team and on their own when the need arises


The post holder will be required to support and assist the Curator in the management and husbandry of Hobbledown’s diverse animal collection as well as the supervision of the animal team involved with their care.

A full driving licence preferred

Animal Keeper



Full Time Animal Keeper

We are seeking to employ a full time animal keeper within our large mammals department.

The large mammals department is a small team of highly passionate individuals working to improve the welfare of elderly female African elephants within our brand new facility. In conjunction with this we manage a successful breeding group of white rhino. Candidates must have experience of working within a zoo or safari park environment and an excellent understanding of animal management within a protected contact setting. An ability to show they can operate as part of a team is essential.

Applicants will be expected to be qualified to HND level in a zoological related science and ideally hold the DMZAA qualification. In order to be successful you must have experience in the daily management and improvement of habitats for high maintenance exotic animals, as well as a proven understanding on dealing with problematic behaviours. Excellent customer service skills and a high understanding of safety within the work place are also necessary.

Salary is negotiable and a full clean driving licence is required. Applications are only requested from those who fit the above criteria.

Marwell Wildlife is a registered charity dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and other natural resources. Our 140 acre zoological park in the heart of Hampshire is home to over 180 exotic and charismatic species in beautiful landscaped surroundings.

 

We are currently looking to recruit an Explainer who will be focused on delivering a wide range of animal encounter experiences, public engagement activities and visitor learning opportunities.

 

You will be required to source information for public engagement activities and contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of these.

 

Applicants must be confident, enthusiastic and engaging with a degree in biological or environmental sciences and experience of working with and presenting to a variety of audiences (children and adults) in large or small groups.

 

Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service and presentation skills are essential, as well as a commitment to education biodiversity, conservation and environmental protection.
