Twycross Zoo is at a very exciting stage of development with the first phase of a 20 year masterplan already underway.  The plan will see the zoo developing new habitats for a refreshed animal collection starting with Giraffe Savannah and Gibbon Forest in 2015 and plans for ape developments also going ahead. 

We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Keeper to work on our Birds & Tropical and Pets@Twycross sections. These areas manage a range of birds and animals including hornbills, flamingos, penguins, parrots, some reptiles, small mammals, domestic animals and invertebrates.

Key Responsibilities:
·       Basic animal husbandry and regular interaction with the public

Key Skills & Requirements:
·       Enthusiastic, motivated and with an interest in zoo animal management and education
·       Commitment to continual professional development
·       A good team worker
·       Zoo keeping experience and a relevant animal-related qualification

The role is permanent, part-time (10 days out of 21) and includes weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum (pro rata).

Taronga Conservation Society Australia currently has a vacancy for a Full-time Aboriginal Education Officer, based at Taronga Zoo. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop innovative and exciting experiences and programs from an Aboriginal perspective.


The successful applicant will be a member of a supportive and multi-disciplinary team. The role is to coordinate the development and delivery of education programs and provide excellent service to school groups and visitors to Taronga Zoo’s.


To be successful in this role you will require:

• Aboriginality (Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act of 1977);

• Hold a formal teaching qualification from a higher education institution recognised by the Department of Education and Training;

• Diverse knowledge of Aboriginal communities;

• Experience in developing and implementing Aboriginal education programs;

• Excellent communication, teamwork, negotiation and organisational skills;

• Experience in theatre or performance based activities;

• High level computer literacy skills including Microsoft office;

• Experience in project management and budget development, reporting and reconciliation.
