 Experienced Animal Keeper

All Things Wild is a thriving and successful family attraction based on the edge of the Cotswolds, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country and easily accessible from a number of major cities.      

          

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Animal Keeper. The candidate will be working with a variety of animals within a zoo environment. A working experience with small primates including cebids and callitrichids is necessary, as is good working knowledge with a wide range of taxa. Good communication skills and an ability to connect with our young visitors is an important part of this job.  

 

The keepers work 5 days a week including bank holidays and weekends. The successful applicant must have a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work, with a passion for the natural world and conservation. A good eye for detail and high standards for animal husbandry are a must.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      To ensure the day to day running of the zoo goes smoothly.

·      Day to day husbandry of the animals in the zoo including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping.

·      To ensure the highest standard of animal welfare is being adhered to.

·      To be competent delivering talks and experiences to members of the public. 

·      Working effectively alongside a small team of keepers and volunteers.

·      To ensure records and other relevant documents are kept up to date.

 

Key skills and requirements

 

·      Have a minimum of 3 years working with a range of animals within a zoological environment. 

·      DMZAA or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.

·      Must have a can-do attitude.

·      Strong verbal communication skills and good customer care skills

·      Confident in delivering animal presentations and talks to our visitors, and educational sessions to school groups.

·      An excellent timekeeper.

·      Work well individually and as part of a team.

·      The ability to keep calm in stressful situations.  

·      Due to the location, a full UK driving license is required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bird & Reptile Keeper who, in conjunction with the management, can develop and extend the animal collection.

The keepers work 5 days a week including bank holidays and weekends. The successful applicant must have a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work, with a passion for the natural world and conservation. A good eye for detail and high standards for animal husbandry are a must.

·      An excellent timekeeper.

·      Work well individually and as part of a team.

Animal Collection Manager

 


Animal Collection Manager

 

All Things Wild is a thriving and successful zoo and family attraction based on the edge of the Cotswolds, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country and easily accessible from a number of major cities. The business has grown rapidly since its inception in 2012.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Collection Manager who, in conjunction with the management, can lead and enhance the management and continued development of our diverse animal collection.

 

Role Purpose & Dimensions

To be responsible for all aspects of management of the animal collection ensuring high standards of animal health and welfare within agreed budgets.

·      To manage and mentor our passionate and dedicated team.

·      Contribute to the strategic planning of the animal collection and the park itself.

·      Enhance the management of specific taxa within the animal collection, to include the development of husbandry and its related policy and practice.

·      Contribution to enclosure designs.

·      Facilitate and support the education, research and conservation program.

·      Maintain the safety and wellbeing of staff.

·      Oversee the security of animals within the collection.

·      Contribute to the preparation and prudent management of the department budget.

·      Represent All Things Wild within the zoological community.

·      Liaise with BIAZA and EAZA as required

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

·      Planning for, attending and leading regular departmental and management meetings.

·      Develop and oversee implementation of species plans to include population management and husbandry routines.

·      Oversee the standards of husbandry and monitor the quality of animal care, enrichment and record keeping.

·      Liaise with Veterinarians as required.

·      Facilitate relevant research.

·      Monitor the maintenance and enhancement of animal enclosures.

·      Maintain communications with relevant EEP coordinators and manage animal transactions.

·      Provide supportive team leadership, including the management and mentoring of staff.

·      Oversee staffing and rota’s.

·      Provide appraisals for team members.

·      Monitor and ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.

·      Contribute to the development of emergency procedures.

·      Facilitate and participate in education and marketing initiatives as required.

·      Report on the status of the animal collection as required.

·      Support and participate in Zoo License inspections, and any other audits as required.

 

 

Key skills and requirements

 

 

·      Relevant qualification in Animal Management or Biological Science.

·      At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

·      Established track record in zoological community

·      Wide ranging experience and track record of exotic animal management.

·      Experience of team management and successful handling of people management issues.

·      Understanding of budget and resource management would be advantageous.

·      IT skills required and confident in use of software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) knowledge of ZIMS would be advantageous.

·      Understanding of best practice and relevant legislation.  

·      A full UK driving license is required.

 

Salary: Dependent on experience.
