SHORT FIXED TERM KEEPER  POSITION


LOCATION: Near Fowey in Cornwall

We are looking for an Animal Keeper who is looking for a temporary position
Starting in Jan/Feb for 3 - 6 months Fixed Term.
To assist us in caring for our Animal Collection. You would be working with
A varied range of species including Clouded Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena, Fossa,
Sun Bear, Great Hornbill, Giant Red & White Flying Squirrel, Shoebill and various
Primate Species. You would also be required to prepare and feed animals, clean enclosures and animal housing and carry out basic maintenance of enclosures and keep grounds tidy and maintained with a small amount of gardening.

We are looking for a hands on mature, experienced self motivated individual with the right passion to care for these species to en excellent standard. It would suit an individual looking for a limited time at one facility to gain a new experience or learn the husbandry of some specific species.

The keeper would need to find their own accommodation in the nearby area.

SKILLS REQUIRED

* SELF MOTIVATED
* IDEALLY MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AS AN ANIMAL KEEPER
* GOOD COMMUNICATION AND ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS
* MUST HAVE AN EXCELLENT STANDARD OF HYGEINE
* ABILITY TO MONITOR ANIMALS HEALTH AND WELLBEING
* FULL DRIVING LICENCE

HOURS 08.00 TILL 18.00, 5 DAYS OUT OF 7
MONTHLY PAY £1,600 - £2,200 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE
PAID BONUS AT END OF TENURE

About the Role

 

Feral WAP is a Small, Private Conservation and Breeding Centre based in a secluded

setting in Cornwall in the U.K.

 

It is not open to the general public but open for tours and other events on a booking basis at certain times of the year.

 

The facility houses an important collection of animals and you will be working alongside a variety of species including Sun Bear, Spotted & Brown Hyena, Malagasy Carnivores and various

Mustelids, Primates including Bearded Saki, Lemurs and some Callitrichids and Various Bird species.

 

We are looking for an Animal Keeper who is self motivated, dedicated and not afraid of hard work. You will often need to work alone or as part of a small team.

 

Experience:

 

We are looking for someone with the following:

 

* A minimum of 1 year previous experience working with similar species.

 

* Good interpersonal communication skills.

 

* Obvious passion, interest and dedication to this field of work.

 

* Positive and cooperative attitude to work and management.

 

   *

   The job requires a good standard of physical fitness.

 

* An Interest in horticulture a bonus, also is an ability

to do basic repairs or maintenance.

 

* High cleanliness standards and organisation skills essential.

 

* Full Drivers Licence required.

FWAP is a small private, breeding and conservation project situated near Fowey in Cornwall. Not open to the Public, but with occasional on site tours and events. The project is set in private grounds.


You would be taking care of the following species amongst others:

Sun Bear, Clouded Leopard, Southern Cheetah, Small Felids, Spotted and Brown Hyena. Asian Hornbills, King Vulture and Storks, Chinese Giant Red and White Flying Squirrels, Various Mustelids and Viverrids such as Yellow Throated Marten, Honey Badger and Binturong and Malagasy Carnivores including Fosa and Grandidier’s Vontsira. We also work with a number of Primates ranging from Tamarins to Bearded Saki and Lemurs.


We are looking for a highly self motivated, disciplined and passionate individual who is able to work alone or within a very small team. You will be also be working directly with the Owners who are also hands on.

 

No accommodation is included with the position. The candidate would be required to live within a fairly close proximity to us so this needs to be considered for anyone moving from outside of the area. You would need to find your own accommodation locally if moving from outside the area.

Main Duties

* DIET PREPARATION, FEEDING, CLEANING  OUT AND PROVIDING ENRICHMENT FOR ALL ANIMAL GROUPS 
  HELD AT THE  FACILITY
* TO FOLLOW STRICT SAFETY RULES AND SECURITY PROTOCOLS ON SITE.
* MAINTAIN DAILY RECORDS AND FEED SUPPLY MONITORING.
* LIASE DIRECTLY WITH VETERINARIANS AND OWNERS .
* SOME GARDENING AND GROUNDS KEEPING IS ALSO PART OF THIS ROLE.

Candidate Requirements:

* CLEAR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH WILD ANIMALS, IDEALLY FELIDS AND OTHER  CARNIVORES.
* MUST HAVE A CLEAR PASSION FOR THE SPECIES GROUPS THAT WE SPECIALISE IN AT FWAP.

You would be taking care of the following species amongst others:

Sun Bear, Clouded Leopard, Southern Cheetah, Various Small Felids such as Marbled Cat and Rusty Spotted Cat, Spotted and Brown Hyena. Flamingo, Asian Hornbills, King Vulture and Storks (Shoebill & Saddle billed), Britain’s only group of Giant Flying Squirrels, Various Mustelids and Viverrids such as Yellow Throated Marten, Honey Badger and Binturong and Malagasy Carnivores including Fosa and Grandidier’s Vontsira. We also work with a few Primates ranging from Tamarins to Bearded Saki and Lemurs.


We are looking for a highly self motivated, disciplined and passionate individual who is able to 
work alone or within a very small team.

The location is rural, however close to some large towns, so an Individual who loves the countryside and the outdoors would be more suited.


The position start date will be March 2021. No accommodation is included with the position.
