RARE SPECIES CONSERVATION CENTRE

Animal Keeper - Permanent

RSCC Carnivore Conservation Centre is a small zoological facility in Kent dedicated to the care, breeding and conservation of Felids, Small Carnivores and Nocturnal Prosimians.

We maintain various species seldom seen elsewhere in captivity. You would be working with species such as: Sun Bear, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Rusty- Spotted Cat, Palawan Bearcat, Smooth - Coated Otter, Yellow Throated Marten, Aardwolf, Fat Tailed Dwarf Lemur, Potto and Loris and many more similar species.

A Highly motivated, experienced and dedicated animal keeper is required to work with
all species kept at the centre. The person would be responsible for the daily care and management of these species, under the supervision of the Head Keeper. A particular interest in these animal groups is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Animal Care and Management
Animal Diet preparation
Enrichment
Keeping Daily Records
Supervising "Keeper For A Day" participants

REQUIREMENTS

Formal Qualification not required, but preferred, but a huge amount of enthusiasm and dedication needed!

Must be able to work under your own initiative when needed, ability to work independently or in a small team.

Previous experience in the care and husbandry of Small Carnivores and Felids required

Exceptional standards of cleanliness and Hygiene required.

Full Drivers License

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Primate Keeper to join the team at Newquay Zoo. The post requires a hard working, dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable individual to oversee and contribute to the day to day running of this varied section.

The ideal candidate will possess the aptitude to implement, update and improve the current management techniques for nutrition, enrichment and behavioural training of these taxa. In addition, they will assist in the future development of the section and be involved with in house staff training.

The section currently houses 13 species of primates consisting of Callitrichids, Prosimians and Old and New World Primates.

A minimum of 6 years working with primates is required and preferably within a BIAZA/EAZA recognised institution. The ideal candidate will have attained the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals or equivalent.

The closing date for applications is the 16th August 2010.

Senior Bird Keeper


A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Bird Keeper at Newquay Zoo.
The post requires a hard working, dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable
individual to oversee and contribute to the day to day running of this
varied and expanding section and be involved with in house staff
training.

The section currently houses over 50 species of birds with approximately
190 specimens including Sphenisciformes, Psittaciformes and an ever
growing collection of Passeriformes.

A minimum of 6 years working with avids is required and preferably
within a BIAZA/EAZA recognised institution. The ideal candidate will
have attained the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo
Animals or equivalent.

Animal Keeper

A position has become available for the post of Animal Keeper at Newquay
Zoo. The ideal candidate should possess at least 2 years animal keeping
experience and will have preferably completed and passed the Advanced
National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals.

The applicant will be expected to work on their own initiative and as
part of a team, and be dedicated to the ongoing development of the zoo.

Duties will include attending to the husbandry requirements of a variety
of animals across a range of taxa, as directed by a Senior Keeper or the
Head Keeper. Daily observations of individual animals, completion of
relevant records, and having the ability to answer visitors' questions
as required, in a courteous and informative manner, are fundamental for
this position.

General Assistant - Big Cats - Australia Zoo

Department: Big Cats

As a General Assistant you will be primarily responsible for general maintenance and grounds for all Big Cat enclosures, preparing and processing diets and general cleaning around the compound.

Your key responsibilities are to:

• Maintain health and safety procedures and security as directed by senior keepers
• Follow instructions from handlers in a safe and secure manner.
• Form a general understanding on Tiger information
• Prepare daily diets and enrichment which includes butchering in meat room
• Clean, maintain and develop all exhibits and enclosures
• General household cleaning
• Cleaning of tiger night dens
• Maintain the gardens and landscaping of enclosures and facilities (including mowing).
• Ability to use saws, power tools and knives.
• Participate in performance and development reviews
• Maintaining Australia Zoo’s customer service standards
• Maintaining and ensuring confidentiality and privacy
• Work within the guidelines of health and safety procedures to ensure staff and visitor safety & security.
• Participate in performance training and development reviews or programs as requested by the company both on and off the job.
• Attend meetings as requested by Management.
• Other duties as requested by Management

This position is a long term position for someone who is dedicated. The duties required are not based around the Tigers and will not include tiger handling, which means this position will be strictly ‘hands off’.

Zoo keepers and staff at Australia Zoo continually work towards providing new and improved facilities and excellent care for the animals. They do this with enthusiasm and motivation towards their individual learning and training. Zoo Keepers and staff are dedicated to conservation issues and animal welfare.
