We are delighted to announce that Summer Internships will be available through our Learning and Discovery department in 2017. These positions are ideal for those looking to gain valuable experience in zoo / science education, and are also applicable for trainee teachers looking to broaden their experience and work in and out of classroom setting. Those with an interest in developing their engagement or theatrical skills, or who have an animal or conservation based careers are also encouraged to apply.

Summer Internship: 10 weeks covering the period 26th June to 3rd September 2017
Training will take place week commencing 19th June. You will be expected to attend 3/7 days - this includes weekends. Hours will vary according to the activities you are assigned to but are likely to be on one of following: 10am-2.30pm, 12.30pm-4.30pm or 9am-4pm therefore flexibility may be required. Activities and hours will be assigned on a rota basis to give all interns equal exposure to the different aspects of the department.

We are currently recruiting for two Learning & Discovery Assistants to join our education team for the 2017 season.

The department is responsible for delivering a creative guest engagement program that is a positive, fun, memorable experience and importantly connects our guests with the natural world.

The successful candidates will have a range of responsibilities to support the delivery of this program including both formal and informal teaching. This ranges from delivering public talks, hosting and busking at exhibits, conducting classroom sessions, assisting with kids’ clubs and delivering tours and encounters.

We’re looking for energetic, highly motivated and excellent communicators who have an interest in wildlife and conservation issues with the enthusiasm to share this with others.

You will be expected to work flexibly on an annualised hours contract (based on either a 25 or 32 hours per week) in line with the seasonality of the business. This will include weekends and bank holidays.

Our award winning Discovery and Learning Team is central to our visitors’ experience and their engagement with animals and conservation issues and we deliver this through diverse, fun and exciting means. We also reach 25,000 students each year in our taught sessions, ranging through all the key stages and above.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for 2 Learning Assistants to join our team to assist our Education Officers and Zoo Rangers in the delivery of interactive learning experiences for school groups, children’s clubs and visitors.

Our Learning Assistants will deliver Key Stage one & two workshops, help run our different children’s clubs and supervise activities and run interactive conservation education activities for our visitors throughout the year. Our Learning Assistants will also assist with visitor engagement at exhibits and enclosures to help promote Chester Zoo’s mission.

The successful candidate will have:

    •    A Zoology or Biological Science degree
    •    Experience of education work within a zoo, conservation organisation or similar environment
    •    Outstanding communication and presentation skills, which will be used for teaching and delivering learning in different formats
    •    Excellent attention to detail and the ability to think critically about new programmes
    •    A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and other technology for public presentations
    •    Excellent time management and planning skills
    •    Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work alone and within a team setting
    •    Experience working in a public facing role, with demonstrable customer service skills

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

This is a part time position, working 20 hours per week, including weekends and Bank Holidays as rostered. During busy periods, there will be a requirement to be flexible with regards to hours of work.

The rate of pay for this role is £8.35 per hour and in addition we offer a range of amazing benefits including:

We are pleased to announce that a number of internships will be available through the Learning and Discovery department in 2016. These positions are ideal for those looking to gain valuable experience in zoo / science education, and are also applicable for trainee teachers looking to broaden their experience and work in and out of classroom setting. Those with an interest in developing their engagement or theatrical skills, or who have an animal or conservation based careers are also encouraged to apply.

We have two internships opportunities available for 2016.

Program A: 10 weeks covering the period 5th March – 8th May – Weekends only.
Training will take place week 29th February. Ideal for those who are studying or working during the week we are looking for interns to attend one day per weekend (ideally creating a “Saturday” team and a “Sunday” team.  Hours of work will likely be 11-5pm but some flexibility may be required.

Program B: 10 weeks covering the period 20th June – 31st August.
Training will take place week commencing 13th June. You will be expected to attend 3/7 days - this includes weekends. Hours of work will vary according to the activities you are assigned to but are likely to be on one of 2 shifts: 12-5pm or 9-4pm therefore flexibility may be required. Activities and hours will be assigned on a rota basis to give all interns equal exposure to the different aspects of the department.

You will be delivering our school education programme in our purpose built Discovery Centre using both formal and informal methods, as well as educating visitors about animals, their habitats, conservation issues and more to achieve Knowsley Safari Park’s Mission in this interesting and varied role.

We’re looking for energetic, highly motivated and excellent communicators who have an interest in wildlife and conservation issues with the enthusiasm to share this with others.

You will be expected to work flexibly based on either a 20 hours per week or 30 hours per week contract working annualised hours in line with the seasonality of the business. This will include weekends and bank holidays.

These positions are ideal for those looking to gain valuable experience in zoo / science education, and are also applicable for trainee teachers looking to broaden their experience and work in and out of classroom setting. Those with an interest in an animal or conservation based careers are also encouraged to apply.

Internships will be for 6 weeks: 21st July – 31st August 2014.

You will be expected to attend 5/7 days between 9am and 5pm on a rota system therefore some flexibility may be required. This includes weekends. Successful applicants will experience a broad range of education activities and build their competencies. Supported at all times by members of the permanent Learning and Discovery team you will build skills and knowledge valuable to future employers in the education, science, zoological or conservation sector.
