We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Keeper to join our Twilight team on a part time basis. For the right candidate, this post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with one of the largest ex situ breeding groups of Rodrigues fruit bats, as well as many other exciting species on the section from Sengi to Capybara.

Chester Zoo aims to set a benchmark for animal welfare and the successful candidate must be able to deliver an excellent level of animal husbandry, care and welfare for the assigned mammals; ensuring that all enclosures and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards. 
The role will involve delivering personalised animal experiences to small groups of visitors in both public zoo spaces, behind the scenes and in animal enclosures. These encounters generate revenue for the zoo, and so guests are hosted to the highest standards of customer care and service in accordance with risk assessments, Health and Safety regulations and animal welfare.
The successful candidate will have:
•        A HND or degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent experience
•        Proven experience in the care and management of a wide variety of mammal species, as well as the highest standards of exhibtry
•        Outstanding observational skills with an excellent attention to detail
•        Experience implementing environmental enrichment and working within strict Safe Working Practices
•        Experience of implementing guest experiences to a very high standard
•        A full driving licence valid in the UK

Competency in the use of computers and basic software packages, including ZIMS software, would be advantageous for this role in order to maintain accurate records. 

Hours of work are 24 hours per week worked 6 days out of 14, including weekends and Bank Holidays as rostered.

22.2 hours per week for 40 weeks per year
£18,840 - £22,508 pro rata (dependent upon qualifications)

Due to growth in learner numbers, the college is seeking to expand the current instructor team. The post holder will undertake practical instruction and assessment of groups of students and other trainees as required.
Candidates should be educated to at least level 3 in a relevant qualification e.g. Animal Management.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate significant professional experience working with a range of animals as well as a real passion and enthusiasm for animals and helping all learners to reach their maximum potential. The post holder will hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to attain one.

This post is to be based at the Sparsholt campus.

Senior Animal Keeper – Part time (16.5 hours Job Share Position)

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Animal Keeper to work within the Living Collections Department at Edinburgh Zoo, specifically on the animal section where the stock is predominantly carnivores. 

Working on this section, it is essential that the successful candidate has carnivore or other high security mammal species experience and it is essential that the successful candidate has passed the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or equivalent qualification or experience at SVQ 3 or equivalent level. Experience of working in a supervisory or managerial role would be beneficial. The successful candidate will be required to cover all aspects of managing the section, including the staff, in the absence of the Team Leader.

 About You
To operate effectively in this role, practical experience in a zoo or animal-related environment is essential and experience of working with a range of animal taxon groups desirable. You must also have up-to-date basic knowledge and understanding of zoo legislation and best practice, along with a sound basis of practical knowledge and skills about good animal management including dietary knowledge. Proven success in animal training or an appropriate qualification in the use of positive reinforcement training is desirable.

Working hours are 16.5 hours per week and the post involves weekend and occasional evening work.

We are currently looking to recruit a part time, Trainee Animal Keeper. Working 16 hours per week over 2 days, responsibilities will include ensuring high standards of animal welfare, health and animal husbandry at all times and keeping daily checks and records. Although our Trainee Animal Keepers will work on a variety of different sections, a keen interest in birds would be advantageous for this role.
The successful candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use their initiative and possess strong verbal communication skills, as talking to members of the public is an essential part of the role.
Applicants must hold 5 GCSE’s or equivalent and have a demonstrable interest & enthusiasm for animal conservation, management & welfare.

6 month (approximate) contract

An opportunity for a part time keeping position has become available in the Native Fauna team at Adelaide Zoo. The Native Fauna team comprises dedicated bird, native mammal and reptile sections which highlight the important role that native species play within the organisation. This position is based at Adelaide Zoo.

The successful applicant will work within the bird and native sections, and be responsible for daily duties and husbandry aspects within those areas, and as such will need to have proven animal husbandry experience in a work setting, ideally with a range of avian and/or native mammal species. The applicant must also have the ability to work well in a team environment and have excellent communication and time-management skills, and a commitment to health and safety.

There is a requirement for visitor  talks and interactive experiences and therefore well developed presentation skills will be highly regarded, as will any animal training and conditioning experience.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, holds a large variety of primates - every species of great ape (gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orang-utan) plus a range of other primates including gibbons, lemurs, callitrichids, cebids and guenons to name a few! We have impressive breeding records for most of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices has enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We are going through an exciting period of change as this zoo develops and so are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help move the teams forward.

We have a vacancy for a keeper on the Bird section. The section manages all our bird species including penguins, parrots, waterfowl, cranes and also a small range of other species. This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry and includes activities which require visitor interaction.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo animal management. You must be committed to continued professional development, be a good team worker and have strong communication skills. Some zoo keeping experience and an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.

The role is part-time basis working 10 days out of 21, working on average 28 hours per week, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 21 days holiday, 5% employer’s pension contribution.
