Description
This position is responsible for assisting with the daily care and behavioral conditioning of the marine mammal collection, including California sea lions and harbor seals. The Assistant Trainer’s primary objective and responsibility is to provide support to senior training staff and to play supportive roles in public shows,
presentations, and feedings. The ideal candidate will be considered for promotion to Trainer within six months of employment.

Essential Responsibilities
· Assists in the daily care and behavioral conditioning of the marine mammal collection
· Assist senior staff, under close supervision, with the progression of animal training goals and standards
· Able to identify all animals in the marine mammal collection, and observe any possible abnormalities
· Possess a strong knowledge of marine mammal history, individual animal histories and husbandry
· Maintains established criteria for all existing behaviors with the entire marine mammal collection
· Maintains a high level of showmanship while performing supportive roles in daily shows and presentations
· Guide participants through animal encounter and interaction programs
· Plan and direct volunteers and interns in primary areas of responsibility
· Uphold USDA standards in all areas of operation including fish kitchen, animal areas, laboratory, freezers/coolers and medical facilities
· Perform basic water quality and life support procedures on marine mammal pools

Requested Requirements
· Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
· Must be SCUBA certified through an accredited diving agency
· College degree in biology, psychology or related science
· Minimum of 1-2 years of paid experience working with marine mammals
· Must be able to demonstrate a proficiency in public speaking and guest interaction
· Must be able to work on a team, as well as function individually with little supervision when necessary
· Must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds, work on un-even and slippery surfaces, withstand temperatures of hot and cold, and sit/stand for long periods of time when necessary
· Must be able to pass department swim test, including microphone test

Description
Reporting to the Curator of Animal Care, this position shall provide a supportive role in the operation and function of the Marine Mammal Care Department. This senior-level position is responsible for taking an essential role in the daily care and behavioral conditioning of the marine mammal collection. The Senior Trainer’s primary objective
and responsibility is to function in primary and supportive roles in public shows, presentations, and feedings, and to actively shape and condition advanced show and husbandry behaviors. 

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: diet preparation, facility/habitat maintenance, accurate record keeping, and animal observations.

Essential Responsibilities
· Primary role in the daily care and behavioral conditioning of the marine mammal collection
· Able to identify all animals in the marine mammal collection, and observe any possible abnormalities
· Play a key role in maintaining the highest standards in the areas of: husbandry/cleanliness, diet preparation, record keeping, animal observations and facility maintenance
· Communicate with Curator of Animal Care, Supervisor of Marine Mammals and attending Veterinarian to discuss possible health concerns and treatment options
· Provide direct support and serve as leading figure during medical/husbandry procedures and animal transports
· Be aware of safety procedures for animal handling and restraint techniques to ensure the well-being of the marine mammal collection
· Possess a strong knowledge of marine mammal history, individual animal histories and husbandry
· Maintains established criteria for all existing behaviors with the entire marine mammal collection
· Maintain the progression of animal training goals and standards through effective application shaping and desensitization techniques
· Be able to address basic and advanced areas of animal training and management
· Train and execute advanced high energy and husbandry behaviors as requested by the management team of Marine Mammals in an efficient and timely manner
· Execute high energy waterwork behaviors during shows and presentations, and maintain all safety procedure/protocol regarding waterwork at the Aquarium of Niagara
· Maintains a high level of showmanship while performing primary and supportive roles in daily shows and presentations
· Develop innovative show concepts, ideas and visions to provide high quality and creative shows/presentations through effective animal management
· Recognize signs of aggression and be aware of safety protocol for each respective species of the marine mammal collection
· Provide safe and creative environmental enrichment devices to the marine mammal collection
· Act as a mentor and role model for the development and advancement for the Training Assistants, Assistant Trainers and Trainers

· Interact with press and media sources for news features and highlights as requested

Responsibilities & duties
In the role as animal keeper/trainer on our bird team you will be an integral part of the future development of Kolmården Wildlife Park. A big part of your role is to ensure the highest possible welfare standards for our collection of birds.
Additionally you will cross-train and work with our South American collection of mostly mammals.
Duties in this role include daily husbandry of a range of species such as falcons, hornbills and hawks as well as tapirs, Vicunas and Greater Rhea. We aim for optimal welfare for all our animals at all times and as such you will not only be responsible for ensuring exceptional hygiene and appropriate nutrition, but you will also be expected to carry out animal observations, thorough record keeping and daily husbandry training for each individual animal under your care. You will be required to research, develop, deliver and evaluate environmental enrichment that meet species-specific needs. Additional duties include coaching of students and apprentices, supporting our educational, sustainability and research departments and of course planning and executing goal-orientated training of birds using ethical methods for the purpose of shows, guest interactions and education.

Key skills & requirements
The right person for this position has at least 3 years’ experience of working with exotic animals. You must possess a thorough understanding of the science of learning that goes beyond ‘click-and-feed’ and have experience in training birds and mammals using a holistic approach that is based on positive reinforcement.
In addition to the above, we seek a person who has a positive and optimistic attitude. A problem solver who is flexible with a can-do attitude. The right candidate for this post is able to act professionally and has exceptional communication skills which they have a knack for adapting. He or she needs to be good at planning and organizing their day so that they can work effectively. Sound like you? Then lastly we want you to be physically fit and comfortable in front of large audiences.
Showmanship comes easy to you and you must be passionate about teaching our visitors about our animals and inspiring them for a life-long commitment to our planet and its wildlife. Driver’s license is advantageous and fluent in spoken and written English a requirement. You will be required to learn a basic level of Swedish in your first year of employment.

Award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a key position within its Animal Department.
Blackpool Zoo is looking for an experienced Animal Presenter/Trainer to assist in the daily care, husbandry needs and displays of their Animal Events Team. They will also help in developing and moving forward the section within the framework of the animal department's aims and objectives in a new and exciting period within Blackpool Zoo’s history. The section currently maintains a large breeding group of Californian Sea Lions and a number display birds including Owls, Bird of Prey, small & large parrots and some small mammals.
You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. The Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent would be desirable and you must have a minimum of three years presenting and animal training experience.
We offer a competitive salary of £18,328.00 per annum and the opportunity to further your career within the zoological world.

A vacancy has arisen within our Sealions and Penguins department at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park.
We are looking for an experienced trainer/ presenter to join our team and fill this role to include the daily husbandry routine as well as the demonstrations and training sessions.


About you:
You are expected to have worked in a zoo environment with a focus marine mammals and operant conditioning for at least 2 years. You will ideally posses an animal related qualification and have experience with Sealions and water quality control. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills to be able to confidently deliver a presentation using a head microphone in a fun and informative manner.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Animal Trainer and Presenter to join our team.

The successful candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate animal training experience relevant to the zoo’s Bird of Prey and Amazing Animal displays and be familiar with positive operant conditioning. In addition to this, and a key requirement for the role, are excellent communication and public presentation skills.

Working under the direction of the Head of Animal Training and Presentations, you will already have at least 1 years’ experience working with and training exotic animals and your previous experience will complement the already high standard of training and presentation achieved by the department. An animal care related qualification/s would be an advantage but more important is the desire to interact both formally and informally with our guests at every opportunity, providing an additional educational experience that enhances their visit.

Salary is dependent on experience. This is a full time position (based on an average 40 hr week), some weekend working is required and there is no accommodation available with this position.

The Wolf Science Center (WSC), a scientific non-profit institution in Ernstbrunn, Austria, is looking for an Animal Trainer Trainee (www.wolfscience.at).

The successful candidate will, as part of a team, train dogs and wolves at the WSC, care for the animals, conduct scientific experiments, support the administration with animal-related issues and interact with WSC students and visitors.

Background and experience in handling and training of animals, teamwork, and German and English skills are a prerequisite. The applicant should bring communication strength and commitment, interpersonal skills and flexibility. Preference is given to applicants with a long term perspective, that are experienced with hand-reared wolves and/or have a solid background in theory and practice of animal training. The successful applicant first passes through a one-month trial period, followed by at least six months training on the job, with the possibility of subsequent employment as a Trainer at the WSC.

We offer a dynamic work environment in a team with colleagues and animals, as well as the opportunity to contribute to a unique scientific institution.

Payment is made by collective agreement and is during the training period by agreement and after the training period about 1,700 € gross.

A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Sea Lion Presenter/Trainer. This is a full time permanent position and the successful applicant will be required to present Sea Lion displays to visitors during our open season.
Our presentations aim to be interactive, educational and fun and combine a strong conservation message with humour and high energy behaviours. The candidate must be hard-working, motivated and dynamic.

Role and Requirements

The successful applicant will:

•    Oversee the day to day running of the department and manage a small team of staff.
•    Maintain the health and welfare of our Californian Sea Lions, including diets and all husbandry requirements.
•    Maintain the ongoing development of new training and presentation programmes.
•    Have excellent communication and presentation skills, a positive “can do” attitude and work towards the longer-term goals of the safari park.
