Deputy Curator  - Blue Planet Aquarium
A unique opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Curator to join the Blue Planet Aquarium Zoological Team.

The department is responsible for all displays, including our 3.8 million litre shark tank; as well as a diverse collection of terrestrial vertebrates and invertebrates.

Reporting to the Curator, you will be responsible for the day to day management of the Aquarist and Dive Team.

A hands-on approach is required to ensure the team achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry.

You will also promote a high standard of health and safety for all Aquarium visitors and staff.

As Britain’s Best Aquarium it’s important that all our visitors have a magical day out and this is where you play a part.
With your strong communication, leadership skills and ‘lead by example’ management style you will motivate and inspire your team to deliver engaging, informative and educational presentations through public talks or classroom sessions, as well as ensuring you and your team converse with our visitors whilst carrying out your daily duties around the aquarium.

It would be advantageous, although not essential if you had a PADI Divemaster Qualification or equivalent as the post would require you to instruct or assist on our Dive Nights.
If you don’t meet this criteria, then you must be willing to undertake PADI Divemaster training if appointed.

General Curator - Twycross Zoo


General Curator, Animal Department


Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, has over 1,000 animals and is the most comprehensive collection of primate species and subspecies in the western world.

A position has become available for an additional Curator to run and advance the Animal Department as part of the development of the Life Sciences Directorate. This role provides a unique opportunity to join the Zoo at a time when it is undergoing an exciting period of change. You will join the other General Curator in managing the Animal Department and reporting to the Director of Life Sciences.

The successful candidate will have the vision to develop a world class animal department in conjunction with the other General Curator, Head of Veterinary Services, Director of Life Sciences and Zoo Chief Executive. The post holder will also be expected to have input to the design of new enclosures and become an active member of the Life Sciences team.

Applicants must have a proven track record at a recognized zoological collection, preferably with experience of EEP, TAG or other relevant areas of zoological conservation work and best practice, especially with primates. They must possess good all round animal husbandry skills and be able to lead and motivate a team. A scientific background would also be desirable. A proactive and positive approach together with good communication skills and an overall understanding of the role of the modern zoo is essential.

The role is full time, 40 hours per week, with weekend duties shared amongst the curators and extra hours as required. Salary commensurate with experience.
