Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking Aquarist Diver with a passion for historical education and animal conservation to join our Zoological team at Deep Sea World.

 

Join the team at Scotland’s National Aquarium where we offer visitors the chance to experience the UK’s longest underwater viewing tunnel, mysterious coral reefs, majestic sharks and our amazing seal sanctuary. Over 40 displays, including the 4.5-million-litre Underwater Safari with its walkthrough tunnel, are home to hundreds of fascinating creatures, ranging from seals and seahorses to stingrays and giant sand tiger sharks. Located beneath the world-famous Forth Rail Bridge, Deep Sea World is the place for you!

 

Duties/ Responsibilities

Already have relevant experience in the visitor attractions sector working with marine fish and invertebrates and knowledge of aquarium life support systems. Have an infectious enthusiasm for creating stunning and innovative displays and keen to share knowledge with colleagues and guests. A degree or equivalent in a relevant biological science is advantageous.

 

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing displays and exhibits - promoting public education and awareness in relation to conservation and delivering a memorable and entertaining experience to visitors. This post is full time, with weekend shifts and rota’d on call cover for emergency life support systems.

About the role

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing displays and exhibits - promoting public education and awareness in relation to conservation and delivering a memorable and entertaining experience to visitors. Experience in animal husbandry is essential. This is a hands on role and skills in pipework and maintenance of life support systems and pumps are beneficial. It is desirable, but not essential, that you are qualified to PADI Divemaster or equivalent and hold a valid HSE dive medical.  Dive specific training can be undertaken if not already at this level.

This post is full time, with weekend shifts allocated on a rota basis.

Deep Sea World is looking to recruit Visitor Services Presenters to join its team for 2016.   Deep Sea World is a popular aquarium located in the village of North Queensferry, in Fife, Scotland. It is host to a collection of large sand tiger sharks, also known as ragged toothed sharks or grey nurse sharks, and various other species of shark.

About the Role
The Visitor Services team is the public facing side of the aquarium. It is our job to pass on information to the visitors through interactive talks, presentations, and also through creature encounters. We cover all aspects of the customer visit from parking cars, through to reception duties, and delivering education sessions to school visits.

About You
You are genuinely a people person and enjoy the company of others. You have great listening skills and able to find out what our customers enjoy. Applicants must be lively and enthusiastic, and willing to work hard in a busy dynamic environment. Ideally candidates will have excellent communications skills, exemplary timekeeping and attendance records, and be highly motivated. Customer Service skills are of high importance, as are the willingness and ability to learn a vast amount of marine knowledge. Previous drama or presenting experience is desirable. A previous role in the leisure and tourism industry is also desirable; the successful candidate should also have the ability to develop themselves within this role.

The job involves working variable hours to include weekends, bank holidays, evenings and school holiday periods.

Deep Sea World is looking to recruit for a Visitor Services Supervisor to join its team for the 2015 season.  

Deep Sea World is a popular aquarium located in the village of North Queensferry, in Fife, Scotland. It is host to a collection of large sand tiger sharks, also known as ragged toothed sharks or grey nurse sharks, and various other species of shark.

About the Role
Reporting to the Curator & Visitor Services Manager, you will play a key part in the leadership of this attraction.   You will be leading an established team to provide the very best in guest service.  Leading from the front, this highly visible role will involve working with colleagues across the attraction to set the standard to deliver and maintain the highest quality guest journey possible.  This role needs a strong people manager to ensure the team are motivated and pro-active in dealing with any guest enquiries and feedback. There will also be an opportunity to deliver memorable experiences for our key events such as Easter, Summer, Halloween and Christmas


About You
You are genuinely a people person and enjoy the company of others. You have a positive attitude and able to sustain a contagious enthusiasm. You have great listening skills and able to find out what our customers enjoy.  A previous supervisory role in the leisure and tourism industry is desirable; the successful candidate should also have the ability to develop themselves and their team within this role.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, excel in all areas of customer service, enjoy challenging situations and able to create a positive and innovative working atmosphere. 

You will ideally have experience of working to budgets, and preparing rota’s across multi sites. 

The job involves working variable hours to include weekends, bank holidays, evenings and school holiday periods.

Deep Sea World, Scotland’s National Aquarium has an exciting opportunity for the right people to join our Visitor Services team as a Presenter.

The Visitor Services team is the public facing side of the aquarium. Customer Service skills are of high importance, as are the willingness and ability to learn a vast amount of marine knowledge. Previous drama or presenting experience is desirable.

There are several positions available, which could include working weekends and school holiday periods. Remuneration complies with National Minimum Wage.

The Company does not contribute towards any relocation costs to the area. You must have or be able to get a valid work permit for the UK to be considered for this position.

Experienced Aquarist/Divers


Scotland’s National Aquarium is looking to recruit two experienced Aquarist/Divers



Deep Sea World is a market leader visitor attraction and Scotland’s gem based in North Queensferry.  Our Aquarium hosts the largest temperate marine display in the UK through its underwater walkthrough tunnel.  Other displays include tropical marine, freshwater, reptiles, amphibians and marine mammals.
The responsibility of the Aquarist/Diver will be varied, challenging, but extremely rewarding.  A hands on approach is required to ensure you achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry. 
For this vacancy a proven track record in animal husbandry is essential, and experience of developing and maintaining display tank systems is desirable.   A proven ability to design, construct and maintain systems is a must and familiarity with PVC pipework, basic joinery and maintenance of life support equipment including pumps is a crucial part of these hands-on posts.  Other responsibilities will include providing veterinary care, involvement in display development and breeding programmes as directed.
It’s important that all visitors to Deep Sea World have an enjoyable day out and this is where you will play a part.  You will be responsible for promoting and participating in public presentations and education sessions, as well as conversing with visitors whilst carrying out your daily duties around the aquarium.  It’s essential therefore that you enjoy and are just as confident working behind the scenes as well as Front of House.
The role requires you to take members of the public into our main tank (as part of our dive experience package), and to carry out shows and maintenance dives. It is desirable, but not essential, that you are qualified to PADI Divemaster or equivalent and hold a valid HSE dive medical.  Dive specific training can be undertaken if not already at this level.
This post is full time, involving a rota pattern which includes working regular weekends and Bank Holidays, as well as being on-call for out of hour’s emergencies.
