Senior Animal Keeper: Large Mammals 
Temporary role expected to last 6 months

Twycross Zoo is at a very exciting stage of development with the first phase of a 20 year masterplan already underway.  The plan will see the zoo developing new habitats for a refreshed animal collection.   

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Animal Keeper to work on our Large Mammals section which manages a range of ungulate and carnivore species including Asian elephant, giraffe zebra, nyala, tapir, Amur leopard, snow leopard, meerkat and Kirk’s dik dik. 

Key Responsibilities:
·  working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry 
·  assisting with the training and development of staff
·  training and record keeping
·  interacting with zoo visitors 

Key Skills & Requirements:
·  Minimum of 4 year's experience as a keeper – must include working with hoofstock and carnivores, and/or preferably experience of managing elephants in protected contact
·  enthusiastic, high performing and motivated with a proven track record in zoo animal management ·  substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species
·  good team worker with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills
·  commitment to continued professional development of yourself and other staff
·  previous experience of supervising and training staff 
·  zoo keeping experience and a relevant animal-related qualification 

The role is temporary for 6 months to cover maternity leave and includes weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum.

Deputy Team Leader : Large Mammals

We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Team Leader to work on our Large Mammals section. This area manages a range of ungulate and carnivore species including zebra, nyala, tapir, amur leopard, snow leopard, meerkat, Kirk’s dik dik, Asian elephant and giraffe.

Key Responsibilities:
· A hands-on role, working on the section
· Supervising all areas of daily animal husbandry
· Developing, supervising and training staff
· Taking administrative responsibility alongside other senior staff within the Large Mammals section

Key Skills & Requirements:
· High performing and enthusiastic
· Proven track record of zoo animal management
· Substantial experience of zoological animal management, with at least 8 years’ relevant experience
· Able to demonstrate good working knowledge of the natural history and management of large mammals
· Good team worker with positive outlook
· Excellent communication and IT skills
· Committed to continued professional development of yourself and others
· An animal related qualification such as ANCMZA or DZMAA

The role is on a permanent contract and is a full time position (working on average 5 days out of 7) , including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly with and 31 days paid holiday per annum (pro-rata). Uniform is also provided

Large Mammal Keeper (maternity cover)

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park
Stirling, Scotland

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park is situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh just four miles from Stirling. We are a small privately owned Safari Park of 125 acres and hold African/exotic and domestic species.

We require a full time animal keeper for a period of up to 12 months (maternity  cover) to work with the elephant, rhino, giraffe and zebra as part of our Large Mammals Department. 

The successful applicant will have a zoological related qualification or apprenticeship and would be required to start with us as soon as possible.

Applicants must have a minimum of 12 months continuous employment in a zoo environment.

You will be working within a small dedicated team of keepers and will share a passion for improving animal welfare and public awareness of species within a captive habitat.  The role will involve strenuous, physical and challenging tasks ranging from daily husbandry and animal training including talks to the public.   

Salary is negotiable and a full clean driving licence is essential.
