Learning Manager



Learning Manager - based at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo
£28,028 pa

ZSL is recruiting for a Learning Manager within its Discovery and Learning department at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

ZSL is an international conservation, scientific and education charity.  The ZSL Learning Manager will contribute to the achievement of ZSL’s Discovery and Learning mission “to provide positive learning experiences associated with the natural world that inspire lifelong learning in, support for animals, their habitats and conservation” ZSL’s Discovery and Learning strategy covers formal learning provision, CEPA (Communication, Education and Public Awareness) in ZSL’s conservation programmes, arts and culture, evaluation and visitor studies.

The Learning Manager’s main remit will be managing the Discovery and Learning provision at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. This includes both managing and some delivery of the schools programme, self-guided and practical programmes such as ZSL Zoo Academy. The postholder is required to communicate and collaborate closely with the Discovery and Learning team at ZSL London Zoo.

The Learning Manager will oversee budget details and ensure that ZSL school attendance and financial targets are met. They will manage standards and evaluation of the sessions and ensure that the mission goals of ZSL are achieved. The post holder will contribute to the development of the wider D&L strategy and will be required to input into ZSL’s arts and culture programme, evaluation, visitor studies and ZSL’s CEPA work as required.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK. Our mission is to promote, protect and develop wetlands and their wildlife. WWT operates nine visitor centres in the UK aimed at bringing people closer to wetland wildlife.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our London Wetland Centre for a Learning Manager who has the ability to implement our formal and non-formal Learning for Life programmes. This will involve the management of staff, learning spaces, resources and the department’s budget with responsibility for facilitating evaluative research programmes to assess effectiveness and contribute to the overall development of all WWT’s programmes.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience in a teaching and learning environment. A qualification in First Aid and an interest in nature conservation and environmental issues is desirable.

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate receiving full clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau.
