Keeper/Herpetologist

We are currently recruiting for a Keeper/Herpetologist to work in a team of 2 with an aquarist to run our rainforest zone at SEA LIFE London.

The successful candidate will be expected to drive the development and continued improvement if the terrestrial part of the exhibits and form a close team with the aquarist working on the aquatic side. Training will be providing in aquarium husbandry as well as part of extensive SEA LIFE training.

The rain forest exhibition includes a mixture of terrestrial species including crocodiles, spiders, snakes, assasin bugs, cockroaches, beetles and leafcutter ants alongside more aquarium fair like Piranha and Arowana. We are looking for someone to introduce new species and ideas to this area as well as drive the breeding/research and conservation of those species in the off show areas.
Depending on the experience of the success candidate for the role will recruited from assistant/trainee up to senior aquarist/keeper.

The Fenn Bell Conservation Project is looking to take on an Animal Keeper. They will need to be enthusiastic and a self-motivated individual, ensuring the day to day operations of the Centre are carried out to a high standard.

The duties will be to assist the Animal Management team in the running of the zoo to ensure high standards of husbandry and welfare. You will be a good team worker, as well as showing initiative and having a positive outlook whilst being responsible for all animals under your care. You will also play an integral role in the training and enrichment of all animals, as well as maintenance of their enclosures.

You should have a minimum of 1 years’ experience within a recognised zoo environment and hold a full U.K. driving licence and have access to a vehicle due to our location.

You will ideally be able to show independence and self-reliance. You will be required to work Bank Holidays and weekends on a rota basis. Working hours and wages will be dependent upon experience and suitability and will be discussed with successful applicants.

The Tropical Butterfly House is looking for a Head animal keeper to work alongside our existing animal team.

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic person to fill this diverse role within our small dedicated team of keepers. The successful applicant will work oversee all sections and assist the animal manager in the day to day running of this busy tourist attraction. The position requires expert knowledge and experience of all aspects of animal husbandry with particular knowledge of avian, reptilian and invertebrates within a zoological environment.


We are recognised for providing excellent customer care, providing a professional, friendly attitude to all visitors including substantial educational groups. The applicant will be a highly motivated, flexible, outgoing person with a hands-on approach and strong work ethic.

38 hours per week spread over a year, rota working includes Bank Holidays and weekends.
15 years animal husbandry experience and now in a senior position is essential with appropriate qualifications.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist the Animal Manager in all aspects of their role.
• Ensuring all animal and bird records are up to date and accurate - including daily checks noted in the diary.
• An ability to problem solve day to day situations on all sections
• Working on the shop floor on all animal sections on a rotational basis.
• Assist Animal Manager in promoting the best welfare and ensuring animal health is observed by all team members.
• Observe the behaviour, health and security of animals and report daily with any problems to the Animal Manager.
• Reporting defects or repairs required to enclosures and relevant departments to Animal Manager or Building Team.  Complete general repairs as required.
• Cleaning and maintaining exhibits and other designated areas.
• Broad taxonomic knowledge on the range of current species managed within the Tropical Butterfly House collection.
• Be reliable and demonstrate good time-keeping including an attendance record.
• An ability to motivate the team by leadership and a professional attitude. Expected to attain an understanding of all aspects of the company.


Hourly rate to be negotiated.  Fixed term contract which will be reviewed upon successful completion.

Please note there is no accommodation available on site.
A full clean driving license for manual vehicles is required. The successful candidate will be required to pass a health and safety exam before commencing work.

As a keen presenter you will engage visitors about our animals, conservation and the natural world, presenting information in a lively and interesting way to large audiences and interacting with visitors during encounters.  You will also be involved in certain aspects of animal care and training.

In order to be successful in this fantastic position you will have:
-        Experience of delivering presentations in a similar capacity
-        Excellent communication skills and be highly innovative, enthusiastic and motivated
-        Fantastic customer service skills
-        The willingness and ability to learn a vast amount of information about our animals
-        Excellent presentation skills
-        An animal related qualification would be desirable but proven confidence with a wide range of animals is more important
-        Experience in the education sector would be desirable

About Deep Sea World
Deep Sea World is looking to recruit Visitor Services Presenters to join its team for 2016.   Deep Sea World is a popular aquarium located in the village of North Queensferry, in Fife, Scotland. It is host to a collection of large sand tiger sharks, also known as ragged toothed sharks or grey nurse sharks, and various other species of shark.

About the Role
The Visitor Services team is the public facing side of the aquarium. It is our job to pass on information to the visitors through interactive talks, presentations, and also through creature encounters. We cover all aspects of the customer visit from parking cars, through to reception duties, and delivering education sessions to school visits.

About You
You are genuinely a people person and enjoy the company of others. You have great listening skills and able to find out what our customers enjoy. Applicants must be lively and enthusiastic, and willing to work hard in a busy dynamic environment. Ideally candidates will have excellent communications skills, exemplary timekeeping and attendance records, and be highly motivated. Customer Service skills are of high importance, as are the willingness and ability to learn a vast amount of marine knowledge. Previous drama or presenting experience is desirable. A previous role in the leisure and tourism industry is also desirable; the successful candidate should also have the ability to develop themselves within this role.

The job involves working variable hours to include weekends, bank holidays, evenings and school holiday periods.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Education / Presentations Team at Birdworld Bird Park and Gardens, comprising Birdworld, Underwater World and the Jenny Wren Farm, in Farnham, Surrey.

The education team is responsible for the planning and delivery of educational sessions and presentations offered to the general public and to visiting schools and colleges. The team is specifically responsible for the training and husbandry of birds and animals used in presentations and also work with the aviculture team responsible for the husbandry and welfare of bird stock throughout the park. In addition to this the team produces content for park interpretation and species signs and delivers our outreach program to schools and care homes.

The education team works closely with the aviculture team, sharing responsibility for the provision of high quality animal husbandry and education throughout the park.
This role is with a passion for zoo education including both day visitors and formal group visits.

Required:
•        Motivated individual who can work alone and as part of a team
•        Confident in public speaking to audiences of all ages
•        Experience of keeping and training birds/animals
•        Excellent written English
•        Tertiary qualification in a biological science
•        Full, clean driving license

Preferred:
•        Experience with delivering presentations in a captive animal collection
•        Experience in the education sector

A vacancy has arisen for an experienced Sea Lion Presenter/Trainer. This is a full time permanent position and the successful applicant will be required to present Sea Lion displays to visitors during our open season.
Our presentations aim to be interactive, educational and fun and combine a strong conservation message with humour and high energy behaviours. The candidate must be hard-working, motivated and dynamic.

Role and Requirements

The successful applicant will:

•    Oversee the day to day running of the department and manage a small team of staff.
•    Maintain the health and welfare of our Californian Sea Lions, including diets and all husbandry requirements.
•    Maintain the ongoing development of new training and presentation programmes.
•    Have excellent communication and presentation skills, a positive “can do” attitude and work towards the longer-term goals of the safari park.

Part-time- 20 hours per week

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic Presenter, to deliver high-quality, positive and engaging communications on conservation and biodiversity issues for all ages - to enable audiences to understand why biodiversity matters, improve their understanding of the role of environmental parks in conservation and to motivate and empower them to take action to conserve biodiversity.

The successful candidate will deliver presentations to all visitors, adjusting to specific audience needs; initiate and run short activities with visitors and educational groups; assist delivery of out of school hours activities e.g. clubs and summer schools; and evaluate and modify presentations and activities.

Applicants should be able to show an outgoing personality with the confidence to perform to an audience (drama or acting skills advantageous). Candidates would ideally have experience in a
conservation- or education-based environment. You will also have demonstrable enthusiasm for communicating conservation and biodiversity issues and experience of engaging face-to-face with
children and adults of all ages and levels of interest.

This is a part-time post, for 20 hrs per week, on a rota basis, including some weekends and Bank Holidays. Rate of pay is £7.42p/hr.
