We are Chessington World of Adventures Resort and we are part of the magical Merlin Entertainments!

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Ungulate Keeper.  In this role you will work within the Ungulate Team and take an active role in the day to day running of our collection. This will include delivering unrivalled standards of animal husbandry required by our large variety of animals including zebra, giraffe and white rhino. You will be part of the team creating the most stimulating environment possible – not just for our guests, but for the animals too - and since we’re big on conservation, education and research, you’ll have a big part to play in that too. You will also be keen to support all areas within our Zoo, which will in turn benefit your own personal development. You will ensure the Health & Safety of yourself, our visitors and our guests at all times as well as develop a personal training programme in conjunction with your Head of Section.

We are looking for the following skills and experience;
Our ideal candidate will have completed an animal based qualification, with five years of relevant experience of working in a Zoo environment or equivalent.
You will be a clear and confident speaker, able to engage with the public, delivering fun and educational presentations and more importantly an alert listener, willing to learn and develop.
You will have passion and excitement for your chosen field, with a keen drive to develop your career as an Animal Keeper.
This role is full time, permanent, averaging 40 hours per week which will include weekends and bank holidays.

We are looking for a driven and motivated Unit Supervisor who is interested in joining a leading organisation in conservation, animal management and offering amazing visitor experiences.

About the role…

Taronga is committed to conservation - creating a direct and positive connection between wildlife and people.  The Unit Supervisor – Elephants and Ungulates is integral to our continued ability to create these connections and inspire behaviour change for our visitors. Our Unit Supervisors help lead a team of passionate keepers who together with the Precinct Manager are responsible for the daily care and welfare of the animals in Taronga’s Zoos.

Key accountabilities:

About you…

You will have:
  • Extensive animal husbandry related experience (experience with large mammals preferred).
  • A Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent.
  • A valid NSW C Class Drivers Licence (or equivalent).
  • Vaccinations against Zoonotic disease (or the ability to obtain them pre-employment).


In addition you will have strong leadership and people management skills and proven ability to work in a fast-paced and complex work environment.

Newquay Zoo is part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust family, comprising Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts, Slapton Ley and two urban nature reserves. Newquay Zoo opened in 1969, has become one of the country's top Zoos, contributing towards ground breaking and innovative conservation programmes. It has also proved itself to be one of the best visitor attractions in the South West.

We are currently advertising for voluntary internships for a period of 6 months (including a one month probationary period) working within our keeping department. Newquay Zoo is open every day and the placements will be full time i.e. a five day working week including some weekends. The main role of the keeping interns will be to attend to the husbandry requirements of the animal collection as directed by the Senior Keeper in charge. Interns will normally focus on one of our animal sections and at this time we are specifically looking for interns for Ungulate Section.

All internships are purely voluntary and as such it is with regret that Newquay zoo cannot provide any financial support or expenses to those wishing to apply for these positions. To ensure that interns are provided with valuable experience; a training agreement will be completed and reviewed regularly and a training record will be provided upon completion of the placement. 

Objectives of the placement
-        To gain experience and understanding of the work of a zoo animal keeping department.
-        To apply own personal skills and take ownership of a series of tasks and/or a research project.
-        To reflect on training and experience throughout the placement.

Anticipated tasks/training provided
-        Assisting with daily animal husbandry e.g. feeding, cleaning, enrichment provision, enclosure modification etc.
-        Observations of animals and recording of relevant information.
-        Training in basic research methods.
-        Visitor interaction e.g. answering visitor questions in a polite and sensitive manner.
-        Assisting with student supervision at the direction of the senior keeper.
-        Training in animal-management related computer software.
-        Training in all aspects of the company’s code of practise.

Skills Required
-        A qualification or enrolment on an animal science related discipline would be desirable.
-        Previous animal-related work experience.
-        Good communication skills.
-        Adaptable to different working environments.
-        Able to work in a team and independently.
-        Physically fit for the demands of the post.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, has over 850 animals and is one of the most comprehensive collections of primate species and subspecies in the western world. We have exciting plans for developing the Zoo further, continuing our work in conservation of endangered species and providing the very best environment that we can.



We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Keeper on the Hooves and Carnivores section. The section manages our ungulates and our range of large and small carnivores. This is a key role which involves working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry and assisting with staff training.



We are seeking a high performing individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management. You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a zoo based ungulate and/or carnivore keeper and demonstrate a working knowledge of the natural history and management of these taxa. You must be committed to continued professional development and be a good team worker. An animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.



The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday, 5% employer’s pension contribution (following qualifying period).

Animal Keeper – Highland Wildlife Park, RZSS

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), a charity founded in 1909, owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park. The Highland Wildlife Park is a premier visitor attraction based at Kincraig outside Aviemore and specialises in cold weather adapted species from around the world.

A vacancy has arisen for an Animal Keeper to work within the Animal Department team at the Highland Wildlife Park on the section that is responsible for ungulates. It would be desirable if the successful candidate has some experience working with ungulates and will have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals, or equivalent, or is happy to complete this course within 3 years. For the right candidate, they will have the opportunity to work with a number of species that can be found in no other collection within the British Isles, including markhor, forest reindeer, kiang and, in the near future, musk ox.

The post will involve weekend and very occasional evening work. Salary for this post will be in the region of £13.000 - £16.000 depending on experience and relevant qualifications. This post is subject to an enhanced CRB check and a full driving license is required.

Team Leader Roles (AZ and MZ):
The Team Leaders report to the Curator, with 4 based in Adelaide (AZ) and 2 based at Monarto (MZ). Each has two Senior Keepers who report directly and a team of around ten in total. Responsible for the day to day operations of the department you will have a strong focus on leading and managing the team, providing excellent animal husbandry, promotion of exciting visitor experiences and conservation involvement and outcomes. Organisational skills and some planning experience/ability are essential to the role. We are seeking proven team players/managers who can take our husbandry programmes and visitor experiences to new heights. These are “hands on” positions that include at least three days a week on section assisting with husbandry and developing team skills and abilities. Positions vacant are:

TL4 Team Leader; Primates and Ungulates (AZ)
Based at Adelaide Zoo, this position is focussed largely on primates; from Orang-utans to Squirrel Monkeys. The section also includes: Tapirs, Meerkats and Giraffe. Most of the exhibits on this section are relatively modern but some display challenges remain. A proven ability with training/conditioning and enrichment programmes is essential and experience with linking ex and in-situ programmes would be an advantage. Behind the Scenes Experiences and visitor presentations are an important part of the daily routine on this section.

The team face particular challenges with the management of their species and have to adopt some unique approaches to training/conditioning and enrichment. There is a substantial focus on exciting visitor experiences including drive through bus experiences and Keeper presentations with the likes of cheetah and white rhino. We aim to be a regional leader in open range ungulate husbandry and species husbandry of carnivores such as Cheetah, Lions, Hyena and Wild Dogs. For this position we are seeking a proven team player/manager who can take our husbandry programmes and visitor experiences to new heights.

Flamingo Land zoological department is looking for an experienced zoo keeper to join our team. Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year. The zoo is in an exciting phase of development that has recently seen the creation of a number of themed zoogeographic areas and the development of the education and conservation departments. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a variety of taxa, focusing on our large ungulates, including white rhinoceros, common hippopotamus and Rothschild’s giraffe. All of our zoo keepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.


The successful candidate will have at least three years experience working in a zoological collection and have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals. Experience with ungulates would be an advantage, but you will receive direct training in the husbandry of these species. The successful candidate will also be enthusiastic, reliable and a good team player.

General Information:


Located in the state of Qatar, the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation (AWWP) is a private wildlife breeding centre. AWWP maintains around 2000 animals (800 birds, 1,100 mammals and 100 herps) of approximately 90 species. The mammal collection focuses mainly on ungulates and some cats. Many of those species are threatened (Addax, Arabian Oryx, Dama -, Spekes -, Red fronted- Soemmering’s gazelles etc., Cheethas, Somali Wild Ass) or unique in captivity (Beira Antelope, Phillips Dikdik). An international team of veterinarians, curators, biologists and keepers (43 staff)
runs the wildlife preservation. AWWP is associate member of EAZA , non-commercial and not open to the public.

Job description for the position as a Mammal Curator’s Assistant

• Assistance in all fields of curators work

• Mammal data administration and encoding

• Instructing and supervising staff

• Organising all daily routine within respective sections

• Administration of food stock and deliveries

• Administration of tool stock

• Animal breeding management

• Animal monitoring

• Keeper replacement

• Nursery work

• Enclosure maintenance, planting and design

Applicants for the position must fulfill the following requirements:

• High level capability in oral and written English

• Computer skills (Word, Excel and internet as a minimum)

• Flexibility and good organization skills

• Ability to work independently as well as within a team

• Experience in animal husbandry, nutrition, disease, ecology and behavior

• Driving license

The following experiences/skills would be beneficial for the application:

• Experience in resource management and organization

• Experience with staff management, training and communication

• Experience with record-keeping

• A conservation philosophy, flexibility in working hours and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

Working conditions:

Accommodation is free at the preservation, television also electricity and water. Twenty eight days holiday per year, with no additional options for regular leave abroad. One paid flight-ticket to “home-airport” each year. Working hours are flexible depending on the season. We will offer a two year contract with an initial probationary period. Flamingo Land zoological department is looking for an experienced zoo keeper to join our team. Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year. The zoo is in an exciting phase of development that has recently seen the creation of a number of themed zoogeographic areas and the development of the education and conservation departments. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a variety of taxa, including large ungulates, carnivores, primates, birds and reptiles. All of our zoo keepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.



You will have at least three years experience working in a zoological collection and have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals. Experience with Carnivores and Primates would be an advantage, but you will receive direct training in the husbandry of these species. You will also be enthusiastic, reliable and a good team player.

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to live and work in one of the most beautiful areas of Australia in one of the most progressive Zoos in Queensland? We are looking for expressions of interest from an experienced keeper looking to expand their horizons and join an enthusiastic small team dedicated to providing world class care for our diverse exotic animal collection.

We are looking for a Senior Keeper with extensive experience in carnivore, ungulate and primate husbandry, with team leadership abilities. Reptile and amphibian husbandry experience would also be an advantage.

We have a strong focus on best practice husbandry, nutrition, preventative medicine and contemporary enrichment and conditioning techniques and are looking for a multi-talented, enthusiastic keeper dedicated to assisting us in maintaining our high animal care standards.

In the first instance, this position is to cover extended leave commitments for a period of approximately three months. However, we are willing to negotiate length of tenure with the right person, with the potential for long-term employment at our zoo.
