Wingham Wildlife Park has an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic individuals wanting to gain valuable zoo animal keeping experience, working alongside keepers on the primate section.

We are looking for candidates who are willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months, volunteering 5 full working days per week including weekends, school holidays and bank holidays. With a start date of 27th February 2017.

The internship is unpaid and would benefit those who have either already gained or are working towards an animal management or similar qualification. As well as individuals who are already established in conservation or animal care and looking for further specialist zoo experience. Experience within a zoo setting and in particular primates would be desirable. 

A driving licence or access to good public transport is essential and please be aware that unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation.

Wingham Wildlife Park is a family run wildlife park with big emphasis on animal husbandry, conservation, education and safety for our animals, staff and visitors. This section covers a large variety of species ranging from callitrichidae, lemurs, mandrills, macaques & apes.

DEPUTY SECTION HEAD PRIMATES

Howletts is a world class wildlife park run by the international conservation charity The Aspinall Foundation, and works to support a number of overseas conservation projects including the Java Primate Project in Indonesia. We are home to a collection of around 160 rare and endangered primates, including Javan gibbons, Dusky langurs, Sulawesi macaques, Pied tamarins and Gelada baboons.

Essential requirements:
- The ability to deputise for the Section Head in his absence.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and report writing.
- The ability to supervise staff and ensure that the section is maintained to the highest standards in terms of front of house and behind the scenes presentation.
- A proactive approach to work in general.
- A full, clean driving licence.
- Adherence and a good understanding of health and safety requirements of a modern zoological collection.

Desirable requirements:
- Experience driving farm machinery.
- Maintenance and machinery skills.
- IT literate.
- Able to take part in the in-house security team.
- Firearms trained.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a deputy or senior keeper, preferably with primates; and experience of managing/supervising a small team of staff. Applicants must have a proven track record in a similar position at a recognised zoological collection. They must posses good all round animal husbandry skills and be capable of deputising for the Section Head in his absence.

Drayton Manor Zoo - Primate and Reptile Internships (6 Months)

Are you looking to start your career as a Zoo Keeper, keen to get some experience then we have the ideal opportunities for you! We are have voluntary internships for a period of 6 months (including a one-month probationary period) working within our keeping department. (Full time i.e. a five day working week including weekends).

All internships are purely voluntary and as such it is with regret that we are unable to provide any financial support or expenses to those wishing to apply for these positions. To ensure that interns are provided with valuable experience; a training agreement will be completed and reviewed regularly and a training record will be provided upon completion of the placement.

We will provide you with full uniform, allocation of theme park tickets, free parking, subsidised lunch provision alongside the opportunity to learn skills that will form the basis of your Zoo Keeping career.

What will I get from the internship?
  • experience and understanding of the work of a zoo animal keeping department.
  • to apply own personal skills and take ownership of a series of tasks and/or a research project.
  • opportunity to reflect on training and experience throughout the placement.


Tasks/training provided
  • assisting with daily animal husbandry e.g. feeding, cleaning, enrichment provision,
  • observations of animals and recording of relevant information.
  • training in basic research methods.
  • visitor interaction e.g. answering visitor questions in a polite and sensitive manner.
  • assisting with student supervision at the direction of the senior keeper.
  • training in animal-management related computer software.
  • training in all aspects of the company’s code of practise.


What do you need to apply?
  • a qualification or enrolment on an animal science related discipline would be desirable.
  • previous animal-related work experience.
  • good communication skills.
  • adaptable to different working environments.
  • able to work in a team and independently.
  • physically fit for the demands of the post.

•        A recognised animal husbandry qualification
•        A minimum of three years current employment experience in zoo species management programmes, specifically primate and small carnivores
•        A good understanding of animal welfare requirements, enrichment and positive reinforcement training
•        An ability to communicate with all types of people with experience in visitor engagement
•        An energetic and self-motivated approach to your work including excellent time management skills
•        A current manual drivers licence

We are open year round so you will need to be available to work some weekends and public holidays as rostered.

GaiaZOO is immediately seeking a senior keeper who provides support and guidance to the primates section. The current team exists of 6 keepers.

Duties & Responsibilities
· Taking care of primates following the rules and guidelines of the management.
· Providing leadership and support to the staff in their animal care duties:
- giving instructions and setting priorities in consultation with the direct supervisor;
- ensure that staff members perform their duties optimally and effectively;
- see to it that staff members follow regulations related to safety, Arbo, HACCP and
work- and presentation methods.
· Co-ordinate the day to day routine.
· Manage the to the section belonging equipment, materials and stock.
· Report to the lead keeper and provide briefings on any particularities.

Qualifications
· Diploma from an animal care course (MBO+ or equivalent level);
· Leadership skills relevant to animal care and specifically within the zoo environment
· Additional knowledge of and experience with the support and leading of groups of staff;
· Specific knowledge about the primates in the collection is essential.
· Fluent spoken English and a willingness to learn Dutch is essential, preferably also a
willingness to learn German however not essential.

Paradise Wildlife Park currently has a vacancy for a senior keeper to join our animal park team running our Primate Section.

The Primate section is responsible for the husbandry of many species, including multiple EEP species. The section includes; Red Ruffed Lemur; Black and White Ruffed Lemur; Black Lemur; Ring-tailed Lemur; Cotton Topped Tamarin; Golden Lion Tamarin; Golden Headed Lion Tamarin; Emperor Tamarin; Silvery Marmoset; Pygmy Marmoset; Geoffroys Marmoset; Squirrel Monkeys; White Cheek Gibbon; Lar Gibbon, along with Two Toed Sloth and Three Banded Armadillo in a mixed exhibit.

The successful applicant will have an active primate keeper role and will be responsible for the day to day running of the section, husbandry, diets, welfare of the animals and supervision of staff.  This position entails keeper talks/presentations and experiences with park visitors. The applicant will be responsible for delivering and training staff on the delivery of interactive animal experiences such as ‘Feed the Lemurs’.
Paradise Wildlife Park has a small team of primate keepers, cover keepers, interns & volunteers that you will be tasked with supervising, co-ordinating, training and working alongside. Therefore, the applicant must be very personable and able to communicate well with staff and visitors. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and a good team player.

The successful applicant must have minimum five years of experience working within a zoo environment and experience working with primates is a must.

Job Details:
•        Full time; Permanent position
•        Reports to; Head keeper & Senior management
•        Hours; Summer 8am-6pm, Winter 8am – 5pm. Includes weekend and bank holiday work on a flexible rotated basis. Flexibility is necessary in this post
•        Part of a cohesive senior keeper team

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
•        Carry out and enforcing high standards of welfare and animal husbandry routines
•        Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of relevant best practice, and statutory regulations, including  Health and Safety
•        Undertake and record animal observations
•        Deliver high standards of visitor interaction in the form of; keeper talks, encounters, experiences, tours and education events
•        Overseeing and training of primate keepers, cover keepers, interns and volunteers
•        Attend and contribution to regular senior keeper meetings
•        Regular communication with head keepers regarding section
•        Liaise and assist in general duties and requirements as directed by senior management
•        Other duties to support effective and efficient site maintenance may include: Fire Marshall, First Aider, Company vehicle driver, including tractor trailer, Litter picking/rubbish removal/sweeping and general cleaning in order to maintain high standards (nb - full training will be a given prior to the post holder being required to undertake new tasks)

Requirements:
•        An animal science related qualification; preferably DMZAA or level equivalent
•        5 years full-time experience in a zoological collection
•        Minimum 2 years primate experience
•        Excellent communication skills
•        Excellent people management skills
•        Adaptable for a flexible rota
•        Physically fit for the demands of this role
•        Full UK driving licence

Noah's Ark Zoo Farm is pleased to be offering a new keeper position as part of the continuing growth of the zoo.

We are looking to recruit a full time keeper on the primate and small mammal section. The successful candidate will be based on the primate section working under the lead section keeper but will also be involved other sections around the zoo.
Applicants should have at least 1 years' experience working with primate species in a full time position. Qualifications are preferred but not essential. Pay is competitive within the industry and will depend on relevant previous experience.

This position is full time and permanent, subject to the normal probation period. Applicants must be happy to work within the Christian ethos of the zoo and open to working weekends and bank holidays. Working hours 8am- 5pm five days a week including weekends and bank holidays.
