CURATOR OF MAMMALS - CHESTER ZOO

CURATOR OF MAMMALS - CHESTER ZOO

The North of England Zoological Society is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education.

We are currently recruiting for a suitably experienced and qualified Curator of Mammals to join our management team at Chester Zoo. This position will report to the Head of Zoo Programmes and will be responsible for the overall organisation and management of our mammal collection and staff.

In line with the Society’s strategic objectives, the role will involve implementation and progression of the animal collection plan; exhibit design and development; the efficient management of resources; staff leadership and development; and assisting in the expansion of the zoo’s conservation and research activities in the UK and abroad.

There will be an emphasis on coaching of individuals, team building and a ‘hands-on’ operational approach. This is not a desk-based position.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the operational management of a mammal collection, a diverse and comprehensive knowledge of mammal husbandry and breeding. Due to the incremental nature of experience and knowledge required covering animal husbandry, operational and people management, it is unlikely that candidates who have worked for less than five years at a management/supervisory level will be suitable.

Applications should be made in writing, enclosing a current CV and stating current salary or salary expectation to Jayne Quinn, Head of Personnel, Chester Zoo, Caughall Road, Upton-by-Chester, Chester CH2 1LH
(email j.quinn@chesterzoo.org). Enquiries can be made to the Head of Zoo Programmes, Kevin Buley (k.buley@chesterzoo.org).

Closing date for applications is 31st August 2009.
