VETERINARY TECHNICIAN - ABILENE ZOO
Abilene, Texas
This position is responsible for providing technical and medical assistance in the care and treatment of all zoo specimens under the general supervision of the Curatorial staff and the Consulting Veterinarian. The position will include training on procedural techniques to provide veterinary care to the animal collection.
Candidates must be knowledgeable in the husbandry and care of a wide variety of exotic mammals, birds, fish and reptiles in a zoo or aquarium setting; as well as the medical procedures and associated rehabilitation techniques. Also, must be familiar with federal, state, and applicable industry regulations regarding animal care. Candidates must have demonstrated experience with diagnostic equipment, assisting in surgical procedures, and familiarity with protocols for handling scheduled narcotics and controlled substances; as well as a knowledge of electronic medical records keeping systems including ARKS and MEDARKS.
Work hours may include evening and weekends for emergency care. Requires a minimum of two years experience working with exotic animals; prefer work experience in the zoo and or aquarium field. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by a two year degree from an accredited college or technical school in Veterinary Technology or its equivalent; registered Veterinary Technician or equivalent certification is required, (CVT or LVT).
Candidate must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position which included but are not limited to: prolonged standing, running, kneeling, and lifting 50 pounds. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record, as a driving record check will be required for this position. Salary for this non-exempt position is $2,401.60/mo ($1,108.43 bi-weekly).

Zoos South Australia (ZSA) is a non-profit conservation charity. We provide conservation education, as well as supporting and conducting many conservation, breeding and research programmes. As part of our conservation efforts we run Adelaide and Monarto Zoos. We work within the WAZA guidelines for the ethical treatment of animals.
ZSA is involved in a variety of conservation activities, including direct co-ordination and management of threatened species programs to field support and captive breeding for release to the wild, as well as conservation education programs. To encompass its increasing range of conservation activities, the RZSSA has developed Conservation Ark, its integrated science and conservation arm.

Position: Curator
Ardastra Gardens is a zoological park displaying 50 species totaling 250 specimens from around the world. Ardastra has a number of daily presentations including Lory Feeding and the Flamingo Encounter and caters primarily to the large number of tourists visiting the Bahamas – both stay over and cruise ship guests . Ardastra manages a number of zoo/city bus tours that deal directly with the cruise line industry.
Ardastra Gardens is looking to fill the position of Curator. The Curator will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the animal collection, supervision of staff, assist with the education program, delivery of animal presentations and for the development of the exhibits and grounds.
The position requires an outgoing motivated person with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role and the ability to lead the zoo team. An overview of animal management is required so applicants should have at least 5 years animal care experience covering a range of taxa. The position requires excellent communication, multi tasking and problem solving skills, as well as the ability to work in a challenging environment.
