HOURS:                5 over 7 days per week, working an average of 40 hours per week
CONTRACT:                 Permanent, starting mid-January 2016

SALARY:                Dependent on experience. Starting at £14,436 per annum


Opened in 1971 Knowsley Safari is one of the largest safari parks in the UK.  The park has five mile safari drive with a lion pride, white rhino and a variety of antelope species to name a few.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dedicated team of animal keepers. As Cover Keeper you will move around the animal division, working on all three sections with a variety of animals, providing cover as necessary.

The successful candidate will have an animal based qualification and will ideally have experience working within a zoological collection. You must have a strong team mentality, have the ability to use your initiative, and strive to develop and deliver high standards of animal husbandry and welfare across all sections of the Park. This is a physically demanding role and so candidates must be physically fit.

Due to our location as well as the nature of the job role, a full valid driving licence is essential. This permanent, full time position will include working bank holidays and weekends.

Cover Keeper




Cover Keeper


A position has become available for the post of Cover Keeper at Newquay Zoo.  The post requires a hardworking, dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable individual, who will be expected to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, and be committed to the ongoing development of the zoo.

The ideal candidate should possess at least 2 years animal keeping experience within a BIAZA or EAZA recognised institution, and will have preferably completed, and passed, the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals.

Duties will include attending to the husbandry requirements of a variety of animals, predominantly birds, reptiles and amphibians, as directed by a Senior Keeper or the Head Keeper.  Daily observations of individual animals, completion of relevant records, and having the ability to answer visitors’ questions as required, in a courteous and informative manner, are fundamental for this position.

Trainee Cover Keeper

We are looking for an ambitious individual to join our animal care team. If you want to be part of one of the UK's fastest growing zoos and are excited about the prospect of being part of something new, this position might be for you!

Wingham Wildlife Park is a family run wildlife park with big emphasis on animal husbandry, conservation, education and safety for our animals, staff and visitors. We are looking for a like minded “team player” who would fit in amongst all bird and mammal sections. These sections includes a variety of species ranging from meerkats, warty pigs and marmosets through to tigers, tapirs and penguins.

The Candidate Will:

  • Be able to communicate on a one-to-one basis as well as leading public talks to large crowds.
  • Have some experience working with exotic species.
  • Be comfortable working with carnivore feed preparation.
  • Have relevant animal husbandry qualifications.
  • Have a valid UK driving licence or have good access to transport links.


The Role Involves:

  • Day to day husbandry of animals in our park.
  • Giving talks to visitors about some of the species in the park.
  • Strict adherence to safe working practices.
  • Maintaining high standards around the park including emptying bins, weeding and window cleaning.


About Employment with WWP:
This full time position requires people to be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including working on weekends, during school holidays and on bank holidays.

We give statutory holiday entitlement.

This trainee position will pay at the rate of the national minimum wage.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate that can assist in developing and delivering high standards of animal care across animal sections within the park.

The species that are currently within these sections include large and small mammals, Birds, Primates, Hoof stock and Reptiles.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Follow animal husbandry, training and enrichment routines set by the section leaders.
• Maintain high standards of welfare and husbandry on sections
• Undertake & record animal observations
• Participate in animal management and veterinary intervention as required
• Contribute to education, media and marketing initiatives to encourage public understanding of animals and promote; including representing PWP at events
• Engage guests formally during presentations, informally during routine course of duties, and deliver experiences.
• Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of relevant best practice, and statutory regulations, including Health and Safety and environmental legislation
• Other duties to support effective and efficient site working as required, including: Fire Marshall, First Aider, company vehicle driver, including tractor trailer, Litter picking/rubbish removal/sweeping and general cleaning in order to maintain high standards. (nb - full training will be a given prior to the post holder being required to undertake new tasks)

Requirements
The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of animal husbandry and a strong team mentality to achieve the team’s objectives. This position requires a minimum of 4 years experience of working with exotic species.

You must provide excellent customer care at all times and have excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use their initiative, display interest and commitment to animal welfare and conservation, and possess strong verbal communication skills, as talking to members of the public is an essential part of the role.
A full UK driving licence would be beneficial.

This is a full time position, which will include bank holidays and weekends on a flexible rotated basis. The salary for this position will be between 16,000 and 16,965 depending on experience.

The successful candidate will have experience working in a zoological collection and will ideally have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals and have experience of working with a broad range of animals. The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with the visitors, including delivering public talks. Assistant head keeper - Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park


Applicant will report to the head keeper and owner, must be knowledgeable in mammals, birds, sea lions, penguins, primates, lions, wallabies, fish, birds of prey, etc.
Must have relevant experience and qualifications in Animal Management and Husbandry.

Must be able to carry out the head keeper's instructions, to supervise staff and organise work rotas, to stand in when head keeper is away, to report to head keeper, and to cover sections as and where necessary.

We are seeking to recruit a new keeper to join our team.
This is a full- time permanent position which will encompass working with all species within the zoo collection.

This is a varied and challenging role and the successful applicant will join our keepers whose primary role it is to provide cover for sections in the absence of section staff on days off and holidays.

The successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated, hardworking individual who has a good understanding of animal welfare and has previous experience of working with a variety of species.

Applicants should also hold a qualification Zoo Animal Management.

We do not have on site accommodation.

Colchester Zoo is currently looking to recruit a qualified animal keeper to work as a cover keeper for a number of animal sections within the Zoo.

The post will require the successful applicant to work with a range of species and staff on a number of different sections as and when they need cover due to staff holidays or when assistance is needed with large jobs.

The sections include Small Mammals, Birds, Primates and Reptiles and the position requires a quick learner who is flexible in their work and can adapt quick to change. The successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated, hard working individual with at least 1 years experience working in a zoological collection.

Excellent animal husbandry skills are essential and experience with any Small Mammals, Birds, Primates or Reptiles is preferable. Applicants must hold a qualification in the Zoo animal management certificate or equivalent and have a full valid driving licence. This position is a full time position working 5 days per week on a 7 day rota, so will include weekends and public holidays.

Flamingo Land zoological department is looking for an experienced zoo keeper to join our team. Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year. The zoo is in an exciting phase of development that has recently seen the creation of a number of themed zoogeographic areas and the development of the education and conservation departments. The successful candidate will be working primarily within the carnivore section, but may be required to cover other sections including primates. All of our zoo keepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of two years experience working with large carnivores within a zoo environment. Additional experience working with primates would be an advantage.

The successful candidate should be qualified to degree level, ideally with a biology related degree. Completion of the ANCMZA would be seen as an advantage.
